Reflecting the efforts of so many, most importantly our study participants who gave their time to help others, I'm thrilled to share the results of our RCT evaluating the effectiveness of the #SafetyPlanningIntervention for #SuicidePrevention in the year after jail release!
RCT: Among people released from pretrial jail detention, those who received the Safety Planning Intervention with telephone follow-up experienced 42% fewer suicide events over 12 months compared with enhanced standard care. https://t.co/vjpJov7kJV

At this moment, it feels especially poignant to share that all of the "lessons learned" in this paper came from our collective experiences leading @NIMHgov funded studies on suicide. The paper itself was inspired by our NIMH colleagues, champions of #SuicidePrevention in the US.
New paper out from @CRISPatBrown faculty led by @sarahariasPhD provides a useful primer on how to effectively access and use clinical and vital records to improve outcome measurement in suicide research. https://t.co/ns0BMbewdr

In 07/2020, in the depths of the pandemic, we received funding for an RCT of our CLASP intervention for suicide prevention among Veterans recruited from 7 VHA inpatient units. No matter what else happens today 😬 I will forever celebrate enrolling our 850th and final participant!

One very concrete step we could take is to adopt population-level approaches & policies, such as later high school & middle school start times, that promote mental health & wellbeing by protecting kids’ sleep. We can & should do better. @HealthyHours @SleepforScience @SKSDSuper
