No one cares more about reducing crime in DC than me. And I'm willing to humble myself and accept help to keep people safe. What is happening in DC is not that. It's the furtherance of an agenda set on using brute force to scare people and harm the most vulnerable.

Caring for the poor, the needy, the vulnerable is the true mark of greatness for a society. It is by no means found in the counterfeit outward marks of power and might that are being promoted today. Praying that more hearts would be moved with compassion.

I rarely talk about my work here but with so much being said about my city, I want to say how grateful and blessed I am to lead the thousands of men and women who work tirelessly and successfully every day to make DC safe and a place where residents and visitors can thrive.

"Thou shalt not lie." One of God's original commands. In a day in which lying has become far too common place, telling the truth seems radical and risky. But it's necessary. And it's worth it. Truth still matters.

In our very short attention span of a culture, it's easy for us to move on quickly from a topic but it's worth remembering those affected by this awful tragedy. Praying for the families who've lost loved ones and the responders doing the extremely difficult work of recovery.

Deeply grateful to be American. I am in no way oblivious to my nation's faults and failings. I am also not oblivious to the deep blessings God has bestowed on this nation and me as a result. I am committed to the responsibility of working to improve the US. #Happy4thofJuly.
