⚡️Repro insights⚡️Elevated androgens may impact active women with oligo/amen leading to greater weight, BMI, % BF, metabolic hormones, FAI & LH/FSH. In these women, increasing energy intake could exacerbate androgenic symptoms @KoltunKristen @Dr_Scheid

Combat athletes are uniquely at risk for energy deficiency due to weight class/competition rules and repeated bouts of weight cycling. Great work highlighting the importance of maintaining nutrition for health and performance in this population!

Twice today, in separate and unrelated references, I’ve read that RED-S has replaced the Female Athlete Triad. More accurately, the Triad model forms the evidence-based framework upon which RED-S expands; both of which highlight the importance of avoiding energy deficiency.

@emilykrausmd @DrJohnKiel @TheAMSSM Dr. Kraus is entirely correct, in that RED-S does not replace the Female Athlete Triad. Indeed, the Female Athlete Triad is and remains the cornerstone for all energetic (metabolic), reproductive, bone health consequences of under-fueling in female athletes.
