We found most governments were ill-prepared, too slow to act, paid too little attention to the most vulnerable, and were hampered by low public trust and an epidemic of misinformation.

"It is estimated... that approximately 5% of people with COVID-19 will experience long COVID and ~20-25% of those who have long COVID will experience a more severe form, where their ability to undertake ordinary day-to-day activities including working is very limited." - Sutton

What he said...
The result was devastating. When the third wave hit, the public had already been convinced that there was nothing to worry about, and after the third wave and until today, people just pretend COVID doesn't exist anymore. The effect is a rapidly increasing level of excess deaths.

Are people dying ‘with’ rather than ‘of’ COVID? Some argue the high rates of COVID deaths in 🇦🇺 isn’t as worrying as it seems because people are dying “with” COVID rather than “from” COVID. But the majority (89.8%) of COVID deaths are “from” COVID.
