Understanding the science behind the fight, flight response helps us recognise the signs of stress in our pupils. It equips staff with tools & an understanding of when they are in their protective brain & guiding the back to their thinking brain. 🧠🌱

"If you all haven’t tried teaching and rewording standards with your students, TRY IT! You will be shocked at how much it helps them understand why we are doing certain activities throughout our units and helps to guide their learning." β€”T @itsmelakynd https://t.co/uVrVGKpGv2

Behaviourst approaches focus on control & authoritarian practices are not best served while addressing children suffering from complex trauma. This requires helping them feel safe & supported. Adults who can teach & model regulatory skills in a more flexible less punitive way🧠🌱

Sometimes happiness is just waking up in the morning being grateful for what you still have and who you still have in your life. Remember that joy is in the daily things we sometimes forget are right in front of us. 🫢🏻#StarfishClub

β€œOne steady, caring adult can change the entire trajectory of a struggling student’s life. When a child feels seen, believed in, and supported by an educator, coach, counselor, or mentor, their brain feels safer, their confidence grows, and learning becomes possible again.

You cannot punish or discipline a dysregulated brain. We need to lead from connection, not control. It starts with us with understanding that behaviour is communication & every challenging moment is an opportunity to teach not punish & guide them towards new skills.🧠🌱

In schools, children's psychological needs start with & are prioritised by basic brain map management & how the brain is organised. Starting with basic requirements for human survival. Safety, love, & belonging. When we meet their needs, we unlock their potential. 🧠🌱

Trauma does not exist in a vacuum. To cure the child, you heal the parent. We need to reform the environment where our young people are raised. 🧠🌱

For generations, kids had three worlds: 1. Home 2. School 3. A third place; the park, the field, the neighborhood, the church gym, the rec center. That third place is where kids learned: β€’ how to solve problems without an adult β€’ how to read emotions and faces β€’ how to handle
