When we relinquish the idea that others are in control and take full responsibility life gets easier in the long term. Even when the actions people take affect our lives it's best to just focus on what you can control.

Setting boundaries and making these shifts can still be done with respect. So many people talk of boundaries as aggressive black and white, you slight me and I swear at you etc. It doesn't have to be so. You can change how you spend your time and energy while keeping your calm.

Having your emotional regulation be based on expectations of others isn't emotional regulation at all. If we change ourself and our standards for what we tolerate, how we think, act, and how we react to others we don't need to sit in chaos waiting for the world to change.

A lot of the people I know who are the most frustrated by life are waiting for their friends family and coworkers to treat them differently or waiting for permission to do what they want. Even as adults.

Focusing on myself is enough work. That's a lifetime of work. It's been said that it's easier to govern a city than govern your own mind. How others act around me affects me, yet I don't need to control or change others. I can choose what I do and who I do it with.

I have been laughing at myself a lot recently. Realizing that I decide if I'm going to continue to be stressed or if something is an emergency. I am in control of how I conduct myself and what thoughts I perpetuate.
