It was quality over quantity at Kessingland today with just 22 birds captured. 7 redpoll (cabaret) ringed with a nice 1cy male (on the left in the photos), a female firecrest and a couple of fresh-in continental blackbirds.

Another yellow-browed warbler ringed this morning after being heard calling in the lane. Finally captured our first redpolls of the autumn with 2 singles and a late (1pm) flock of 14. Very late/reduced passage this year. Also our 3rd adult redwing- no 1cy so far. Very worrying

Delighted to see this yellow-browed warbler in our nets with a small goldcrest flock this morning. It is the 20th YBW ringed at Kessingland since 2008. Decent fall of birds first thing including redwing, robin, song thrush, reed bunting and dunnock.

The importance of scrub habitat for breeding birds & passage migrants cannot be underestimated. We've been struggling to get to 20 birds in 5 hours at our reed bed site over the last 8 sessions since April. In what seems to be a poor spring this is a good result. Well done team!.

Y'day saw the 1st session at the sewage works since mid May. Like other ringers at the moment, we had low numbers- just 26 birds caught (5 recaptures). Of 18 juvs, most were blackcap, chiff, wren & blackbird. First juv lesser whitethroat (pic 1). Excitement of an osprey over 8.07

Only our 10th jay ringed at the sewage works in our 20th year on site. The last one was ringed here in 2019. This one was captured in a net set up specifically for trainees to learn & practice furling.

Today I took my trainees bird ringing & we caught an unexpected jay (pic courtesy of @KessinglandRG), had a cheeky pint after an aborted 3.30pm meeting & planted some perennials. Think I'm gonna need more plants! .Not bad for 40 days post fractured skull 💪

KS was ringed as an adult bird at the pier in 2011 but has never been recaptured. 4K was ringed in Waveney Dock & this is the first confirmation that he is a male. Thanks for your resighting info Joolz. Every resighting adds to our growing data for Lowestoft Kittiwakes.

A blurry phone scoped pic of my old friend KS at the Claremont pier today. KS is at least 16 years old & regularly sighted at the pier every year since 2011. Also a new friend, 4K with his beau. Ringed as a pullus in 2013, he is now 11 years old. Not seen since 2019!
