source of much quackery: an expert in one field claims expertise in a very different field and retreats behind the generalization “scientist”
“As a father and as a scientist, I don’t know how we have the courage, based on such slim evidence, to come to parents and tell them that that’s ok to give to your zero day baby—especially when the risk is so low.” — @RetsefL

There’s almost nothing more “permanent Washington” than a regime-change war in Venezuela sold to the American public on the pretext of stopping “narco-terrorists.”
I'll add: we've been told for decades the US military must go everywhere and do the impossible all over the world. But the red line for permanent Washington is using the military to destroy narco terrorists in our own hemisphere.

I think this deserves a Pulitzer and an ASME personally, but unfortunately I'm not in charge of those things yet so this rare serious tweet will have to suffice.
For the latest issue of @NYMag, I wrote a story about the private, absurd, agonizing struggles of people who go to work every day for a man who thinks they’re monsters.

This is a story about an agency that could be any agency struggling with complicity under authoritarianism, but happens to be the agency charged with stopping the spread of deadly disease.

NYTimes article quotes someone saying they are "terrified" of Waymo in paragraph 6. Waits until paragraph 33 (out of 44 paragraphs) to mention that they are 91 percent safer than human drivers. How outraged would liberals be if a news outlet covered vaccines like this?

Two years ago I learned that six of my cousins were killed by an IDF airstrike in Gaza while sheltering in their church: Viola & Yara, and four young children—Alia, Juliet, George & Joelle. May their memories be eternal, and may God watch over all the suffering people of Gaza.
I was really worried about this. 😔 With great sadness, I have now confirmed that several of my relatives (including Viola and Yara pictured here) were killed at Saint Porphyrius Orthodox Church in Gaza, where they had been sheltering, when part of the complex was destroyed as

What do we want? Restore US manufacturing! How we gonna do it? Force a shrinking US manufacturing industry to pay import taxes to the feds, and then re-route the money to soy farmers!

“violent thinking”
Let’s be perfectly clear: a school board member suggested it was ok to shoot people for their beliefs. She must resign immediately. Not tomorrow, not next month, immediately. It is beyond unacceptable for the Chesterfield County School Board to push off this resignation till
