I don't normally speak to strangers at the gym but I had to talk to this guy. He lives the shirt, and asked for a recommendation for a book on primate behavior. So I told him Jane Goodall's "In the Shadow of Man.".

Just found out anthropologist John Bock passed away last summer. I didn't know John well -- he was several years ahead of me in grad school at UNM. But I'm still bummed. I know his health had been poor for years but it's still a great loss.

I asked my primatology students what they were most likely to remember fr my class in the coming years. The most popular answer by far was “sperm competition.” So that’s my legacy, I guess. If anyone ever asks them why chimps have much larger testes than humans, they’ll be ready.

Has anyone else noticed that the grammar check in MS Word is now incredibly bad? I generally run it on student papers when I open them up, and it used to be helpful. Now it's crap, making loads of useless/stupid suggestions that take more time to ignore than they're worth.
