Since I have seen most movies in the theater since the early 1960s, I'd have to go way back. It would be great to see a comedy, perhaps Laurel and Hardy, and hear the laughter. Or maybe enjoy the shocks of the audience seeing Dracula or Frankenstein (1931) for the first time.

Nosferatu (1922) established the convention of vampires dying from exposure to sunlight. In the novel Dracula, which Nosferatu was based on, sunlight was only an irritant to vampires

SAD FAREWELL - Ace Frehley I saw KISS in concert (w/ Rush opening) in March of 1975 for only six bucks. They were both new groups at the time, and they both rocked. Along with their noted theatrics, early KISS had some good rock and roll and Ace's guitar made a difference. RIP

BIRTHDAY SALUTE - William Elliot One of my favorite cowboy actors, he certainly didn't reach the level of John Wayne and Randolph Scott, and is not as well remembered as Gene Autry or Roy Rogers, but among many western actors I always thought Wild Bill Elliot was one of the best.

My friends Farran and Alan are on this Criterion release so I'll be among the first to order it.
It was such a pleasure to write the essay for CAPTAIN BLOOD, a movie I dearly love. And for friends who love commentaries, note that this has one from Curtiz biographer (and font of knowledge) Alan K. Rode.

I worked with Jerry Lewis on a project and we remained friends for the last 25 years of his life. He was supportive, encouraging, and kind.

In the 70s, Marx Brothers and W.C. Fields films were hugely popular among college students, and there were constant screenings on campus and now they don't seem to be discussed much at all, especially Fields.
uncs of film twitter: what are some movies that are canonical now but were basically unknown when we were coming up? like Come and See or Possession. inversely: what are some movies or filmmakers that seem to have fallen off? (Takashi Miike comes to mind)
