I was asked to help find someone in West, and I turned to my friend who was badly affected and has WiFi a few moments. She went looking for the person in their district, sent a photo to confirm and a status update from the person and on their home. Community.

#FISHERIES Unfortunately there is significant loss of equipment. A number of Fishers across those beaches reported loss of boat and engines, almost all reported loss of fish pots. This is despite them taking the precautions to bring in their boats. Storm surge was overwhelming.

Following Hurricane #Melissa, the EU continues to mobilise aid for #Jamaica. Belgium and Luxembourg are providing energy items (Luxembourg also shelter items), while Spain is deploying a medical team. French and EU donations are already on their way. 🇪🇺🇧🇪🇱🇺🇪🇸🇫🇷🤝🇯🇲

I’ve allocated $4 million from @UNCERF to get urgent aid to people affected by Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica. This will allow @UN agencies and partners to scale up life-saving aid.

As part of the State Department's Hurricane Melissa disaster relief efforts, @Southcom’s Joint Task Force-Bravo, @VATF1, and @LACoFD surveyed damage to assess needs. The United States stands with the Government of Jamaica and local partners to assist the Jamaican people.

So many people are creating “citizen convoys” and making the traffic situation worse.

I also want to commend St. Ann’s Bay Hospital and Mandeville Regional Hospital. While they are serving their patients, they have navigated the spillover from their neighbouring parishes. We expect to see a significant influx of patients across the border to these hospitals.

It is ok to donate in silence. It is ok to impact a few. It is ok to do what you can.

People who have only phone connection once a day are helping to find others. They’re getting information from their friends and family about other missing persons near them, and they are actually going out and searching.

The kindness that we are demonstrating is amazing. It’s who we are. Please sustain it. Ask yourself, what happens next week, or two weeks from now, to those who have been plunged into or deeper into poverty, whose livelihoods have been interrupted.

When doing the food distributions, please remember that many essential services workers in affected areas are showing up to work, so they can’t be in the public spaces for distributions. Kindly ask if you can stop by and deliver to them. They lost their homes and possessions.
