I learned how to 3D model by following tutorials. The trick is not to make what the tutorial is making. Do your own original work and let the tutorial guide the skill development as you learn how to apply said skill to your own project. I learned very fast doing this.

This was the first 3D modeling project I ever did, and I taught myself how to model by making all the different things in the room. It took forever because I had no idea what I was doing when I started, but it’s still the most viewed page in my portfolio.

At the risk of sounding like the most boring person alive, the clicky clack noise of a mechanical keyboard is so satisfying?? So much better than a normal one?? It’s also possible I need to touch grass and get out from behind a computer screen more often. 💀

I did a shot with thousands of raining clothes and had to locate one little hat in a sea of thousands of particles to remove it because it was bothering the director. The level of detail we get into with edits is unreal sometimes. But the hat WAS spinning weird so 🤷🏻♀️
I work in feature animation. AI is smooth, but examples like this miss the human level detail. We get frame by frame notes on the tiniest things, not to make it harder, but because we are chasing a deeply considered vision. The kind you can't fully capture with typing.

Specialist or generalist? One goes deep. The other builds wide. Both paths work in 3D, if you know why you’re choosing it. Here’s a breakdown of reasons to specialize or go generalist:🧵

I rigged a custom character inspired by Pixar’s Hank, one of the most complex rigs out there. With flexible tentacles and detailed controls, I pushed my skills to create smooth, natural movement and expressive poses. It’s not Pixar-level yet, but I’m proud of how close I got.

LA is Hollywood. It’s supposed to be THE place for movies and television. They need to do everything they can to bring the industry back. It shouldn’t be cheaper for studios to fly 100 people to Ireland than drive 5 miles to the Paramount lot.

Let's also talk Animation. Animation artists need to be recognized. Handcrafting each performance. Some of the best acting in the industry can be found in feature animation - "because it is just a shame to overlook the sacrifices and the work put into these films" #Animation
Zoe Saldaña wants more awards shows to recognize motion-capture performances. “Every movement has been performed either by an actor or a stunt actor, and I hope that one day it is able to be recognized, because it is just a shame to overlook the sacrifices and the work put into

A week off work is a great time to start something new, so I got some environment modeling done for a new animation. In this house it’s always spooky season. Stay tuned. 👀

Middle age is neat because sometimes you sit normally for a reasonable amount of time and then when you stand up your back is in agony for absolutely no reason whatsoever. 0/10 do not recommend

The stages of my animation process: I love this idea I can’t wait to work on it I am a fraud I should’ve gone to law school Nevermind this looks ok Noodling and re-rendering until I will literally wither and die if I change one more keyframe It’s ok I guess but I’ll be
