I haven’t lived in central Bristol for ages so sadly couldn’t vote for @ThangamDebb but she would have been THE BEST culture secretary. Hope they find someone who understands culture at her level, and hope she’ll enjoy more cello playing time.

When the too soon & too sad death of a friend you’d kept meaning to meet up with but never quite managing, at least prompts you to meet up with another friend from the same time/ same group… So good to reconnect @Adam_Chamberln, and fill in some of those 30 something years!.

Question for my birding friends: Swimming in a Cotswold lake (no camera) I passed a swimming bird/ duck? with black and white feathers (mostly black, white lower down) and a BLUE beak. Couldn’t see its legs as it was swimming too. What might it be? @LevParikian @VagueBirdAlert.

I have also listened to a LOT of Taylor Swift (a more varied output than I expected to be fair) and discovered that some kids/ families just refuse point blank to listen to any music at all. Which makes me wonder why they’ve chosen to do extra music classes & learn an instrument.

On the plus side, I’ve had a fab musical chat with a year 11 girl with amazing musical insights and got a list of stuff to discover for myself, and I’ve discovered that a K-pop group has sampled Paganini’s La Campanella….

I asked them to bring me 1 piece/ song which featured at least one violin/ viola and 1 that they’d choose to listen to for themselves. And tell me what they love/ hate about each one. Only rule - no explicit lyrics as I’d be playing them on school premises….

Last week, motivated by the facts that a) I have no idea what ‘the youth of today’ listen to, and b) an alarming number of my violin /viola pupils claim never to listen to any music for pleasure or even in the background, I set all my pupils a ‘listening challenge’….

Obviously, in my dream there were bits of the piece I didn’t know at all, and just like in the awake world, I spent more time worrying about how my jacket would look from the back than on studying the score.

Dreamed that the conductor for a big community concert was indisposed so emergency substitutes were assigned. I was delighted to get to conduct Dvorak 8. Better that than the Frank Martin mass or the massed kids’ choirs….

I have huge fondness for all the @BBCRadio3 presenters who see me through the day, but at the start of this jolly season, I really do miss the ‘edge’ of @Ianskellyradio3 on my drive to work.

I mean… I’ve had CBT & HRT. CBT was great as far as it went - I had a lovely therapist & it gave me some tactics but it didn’t touch the hot flushes, insomnia, brain fog or period issues. As you might expect. 🤷🏻♀️.
CBT being offered to menopausal women to help their physical, biological symptoms-sometimes instead of HRT. I see. You can’t talk your way out of biological menopause so it seems a bit like “conversion therapy” for middle aged women who no one cares about.

I wonder what Nigel Kennedy thinks of Pekka Kuusisto. Since I’m watching the @bbcproms highlights with PK playing Vivaldi & NK having declared that the current generation of violinists are all boring.
