Here's my 'currently reading' thread 👇 (and my favourite Lego set: a mini figure of me sat in my chair reading, with a nice cup of tea ☕📚 with the Room of Requirement in the background)

This. All of this. I've had students come into my reading class with fidget spinners, with stuffed animals, with fidget bracelets, shiny pens, etc. When asked why they have it, they all say they need it for their anxiety. So, initially, I always let them all come in with it
“Academic accommodations for anxiety convey two harmful messages. First, they imply that the feared situation is truly dangerous. Public speaking, testing, or lunch with classmates are too risky for a student. Second, they suggest that the student can’t withstand the distress.

I had the loveliest dog walk at the end of today, just before it got too dark. Three ugly ducklings still hanging out with both parents (the other adult swan is nearby but out of sight in my pic). So magical 😍

The funny thing about reading so much as a child is you slowly discover words you've been pronouncing wrong for years

In 2021 I worked in some of the hotels housing refugees from Afghanistan. Adbu used to work for the British army. He was here only because his home was unsafe.

Big intervention from @MindCharity, eating disorder charities, campaigners and experts: “Many young people who could recover with effective care might instead receive lethal medication during a period of despair... Amendments may lessen the risk...but cannot remove it entirely.”

Interesting take.
The BBC documentary about the cancellation of Kate Clanchy is a reminder of an insane time. In hindsight a lot of cancel culture wasn't about culture wars or social justice at all. All too often the unspoken factor was professional envy and resentment. https://t.co/380D46UsEB

Schools should be low tech, high text. Not because tech is bad, but because literacy is the multiplier. Screens split attention; deep reading builds knowledge and comprehension. Books should do the heavy lifting.

When I talk about the importance of knowledge-building, I try to speak of “acquiring knowledge and domain vocabulary” on a topic, because so much of learning history and science is knowing the academic vocabulary. Also, let’s not forget that vocabulary is best learned in
So much of what we call reading comprehension failure is basically disguised vocabulary failure. Struggling kids don't need to be taught to "find the main idea", they need to be taught more words. And explicitly. Reading Marzano's book on vocab and I'm fascinated by this table.

This case makes for grim, distressing but necessary reading for anyone who has views about the reality of elderly women’s vulnerability to the amoral violence of men in their families in pursuit of an inheritance (relevant to the debate on the assisted dying legislation)

Thank you Claire 🙏my dad also wouldn't be able to remember to what he consented to earlier in the day.
Having sat for four and a half hours waiting to speak on one of my amendments to the Assisted Dying Bill, we ran out of time. So I at least grabbed a moment at the end to challenge Charlie Faulkner on his insistence that the Mental Capacity Act is a tried and trusted method of

To those asking, “How can we help Afghan women?”— the answer is simple, yet powerful: 1. Share their voices. In a time when even speaking puts women at risk, being heard means staying alive — and holding onto hope. 2. Support the WDI online education program. Despite fear and
