@Amurtab @UAlberta_Pharm 7) For anyone interested in using PSSI-51 as a tool to manipulate #ketone #metabolism #oxidation for their studies, we are happy to share and please just reach out to myself or @Amurtab

@Amurtab @UAlberta_Pharm 6) So grateful to all @Amurtab hard work and to our many collaborators who helped this paper happen , but a special shoutout to Dr. Dion Brocks @UAlberta_Pharm , whose lab developed the assay for us to detect/measure PSSI-51 in biological specimens

@Amurtab @UAlberta_Pharm 5) Indeed, @Amurtab demonstrated that treatment of mice with PSSI-51 inhibited #SCOT activity in several tissues, but not in the #brain, while the overall accumulation of PSSI-51 in brain tissue was reduced when compared to pimozide

@Amurtab @UAlberta_Pharm 4) Because pimozide and other DPBP have several #CNS related adverse effects, whereas #ketones are a major fuel source for the #brain , PSSI-51 was designed in a manner to reduce its ability to penetrate the #blood_brain_barrier to negate these concerns with a #SCOT inhibitor

@Amurtab @UAlberta_Pharm 3) Importantly, this new agent, which we have termed PSSI-51, reproduced many of the actions with previous #SCOT inhibitors, including decreasing #ketone #oxidation , while improving #glycemia in #obese mice

I cannot articulate in the form it truly deserves how much he has impacted my life, but I know I would not be who I am today, or where I am today, if not for him, which I know extends to many others here at the UofA

Excited to share my work with @DanielJDrucker on the role for GIPR agonism alone and with GLP-1R agonism (@tirzepatide_ ) in the regulation of gut inflammation, and providing new insights on the localization of the GIP receptor in the gut. See paper here:
