Question for lab leads: Do you list post docs or other non faculty who run the actual project as key personnel in R01 applications? I had a conversation about this today and realized I don't know what is normal for the field.

A new paper discussing the importance of federal, institutional, and programmatic support for physician scientist trainees. The same can easily apply to biomedical trainees. We as a nation need to support the next generation of doctors and researchers!

A powerful new piece in @NatureMedicine by APSA past presidents & board members discusses how funding cuts could disrupt the physician-scientist pipeline and future of biomedical innovation, and outline urgent solutions to safeguard the next generation.

Not the most important question, but why did @AGA_CMGH stop putting lab images on their cover? It seemed like a great and free way to celebrate work, build community, and get free publicity from people sharing their work. Old cover on left, current format on right.

@magnesslab and I describe how to construct a collagen press, how to pour chamber slide wells with flat, even collagen to avoid meniscus formation, and how to check that the cells are being properly supported. Combine this with any reporter cell line or cell dyes and image away!

If you need to image cell monolayers that grow on soft collagen patties (such our human intestinal cell cycle reporters from , we wrote a @bioprotocolbyte paper describing how to make chamber slides with pressed collagen! See it at

For anyone looking to do this, they have a tutorial for how to upload the image and customer service was very friendly when I wanted to double check it was correct.

Presenting a poster at a conference but don't want to fly with a poster tube? I just used to print my poster on fabric and it looks amazing, including IF images! It cost ~$50 with expediated shipping and I can bring it in my luggage. Highly recommend!

We ran single cell RNAseq on freely growing human intestinal monolayers, designed two platforms for analyzing these cells, and find that human ISCs have very similar cell cycle lengths to those described in mice. These human cells are ripe for further cell cycle studies!.

Earlier FUCCI constructs are great for visualizing cell cycle in immortalized cells or ESCs, but primary human cells are continuously migrating and grow clustered closely together, making simple analysis platforms inadequate.
