Amazing how reactionary and *not based on the evidence* so many views on the four day week are from those within government. ✅ Good for productivity ✅ Good for workers ✅ Saves money

UK Power Networks is registered for tax in Hong Kong, where it stashes its £300m+ annual profits for maximum tax advantage. They won't be coming back to Margate to fix anything because they don't have to do so. There's a reason they call us Treasure Island.
Please can you come back to Margate @UKPowerNetworks and do the job properly, this is directly outside of @TCMargate art gallery. Have some respect.

If the government really want to fix the NHS and public services, here are some ways to fund it: ➡️ Tax fortunes over £10m at 2% (£24bn a year) ➡️ Tax income from wealth the same as income from work (£24.2bn/yr) ➡️ Close inheritance tax loopholes (£1.4bn/yr)

Crazy stat in UK Housing Review: govt spending on housing is at its highest: £30.5 billion in 2021/22 compared to £22.3 billion in 1975/76, in real terms. In the 70s, 95% was on housebuilding, now it's only 12%. The main reason for this drop? A rise in demand for housing benefit.

Reducing the right-to-buy discounts is an important first step in ending a policy that has decimated council housing across the country. Social housing must be at the centre of Labour's housing plans.
The government is acting to protect our social housing stock and build more affordable homes. This weekend we've announced: ✅A £500m top-up to the Affordable Homes Programme. ✅A reduction of Right to Buy discounts. ✅Allowing councils to retain 100% of Right to Buy receipts.

Your income from work won't be taxed more. Your income from capital will. It's a shift in favour of labour. Why ever would a Labour government do that?
So if you’re earning six figures, own assets, run a business, invest, work in the private sector, or qualify for inheritance tax - Labour doesn’t see you as a “working person”? Have I got this right?

Remember that we decided to destroy the world's most extensive tram network for the benefit of rich private car owners. One of the most socially and environmentally ruinous decisions this country has made since the advent of the industrial revolution.
By 1914, London's borough councils had developed the world’s most extensive tram network. Some two hundred cities across Britain had laid tram networks of their own.

The Tories claimed a minimum wage would cause mass unemployment — it didn’t. They demonised trade unions, but unions are the combined power of millions of working people. I support the Employment Rights Bill and urge us to scrap every anti-union law since Thatcher’s government.

The pressure on the super-rich to pay their fair share is growing. Good to MPs from across parliament coming together to support a wealth tax. https://t.co/9gOOOdyhj7

Il Bacio is dead, long live Il Bacio! Hoping it’s the same owners and at least one of the two continues to do the same great pizza. Very confusing though.
The people on site just informed me that Ill Bacio Express in Church Street is going to reopen as….. Ill Bacio Stokey! Same restaurant pretty much, just a slightly different name. Ill Bacio Express is reopening in Newington Green next to No. 60 Brasserie.

Some "modern" views from a member of Parliament's new Modernisation Committee right there...
NEW: Conservative MP Sir Christopher Chope says Kemi Badenoch is “preoccupied with her children” and “you can't spend all your time with your family at the same time as being leader of the opposition”. He was speaking on this month's @itvmeridian The Last Word. @itvnewspolitics

Linear tree pits forming rainwater gardens. Paris, October 2024. This is great green infrastructure practice, deterring antisocial parking, reducing the urban heat island effect through evapotranspiration and removal of hardstanding, and limiting surface water flooding.

In London you should be able to buy dinner at 10pm, ice cream at midnight and a drink in a bar at 2am. If you choose to move next to a pub you shouldn’t be allowed to complain about living next to a pub and get it closed down. Simple. Now make me the new Night Tsar.
