Giving “seminar” spots to NPC corporate journos with zero betting knowledge is just as bad as giving them to the Spaces doofuses.

Great line by @Brett_McMurphy to open up BetBash college football panel. “Here’s your first piece of betting advice, Texas is not winning the national title.”. He added that the AP No. 1 team has not won it all in 19 of the last 21 years.

Chargers losing LT Rashawn Slater typically means losing about 0.1 EPA per play. For reference, that would be the difference between the Packers and Jaguars offenses last year.

This may prove foolish, but having access to this wild/untapped frontier and breaking free from the monotonous mental prison of Returning Production Podcast Hell is giving me a new level of motivation.

Not a panacea by any means, but goddamn it is nice to read something CFB-related that doesn’t immediately start talking about “returning production.”.

Messing around with GPT5. Pretty solid institutional scheme knowledge here RE: ISU/KSU, though I can't corroborate some of the minutiae quite to the same extent I can with CBB.

Just quote tweet or retweet the fucking video. Not everything needs a graphic.

Rick Pitino: “There are no point guards anymore…Who’s the PG of the Knicks, Lakers, Celtics, Thunder?…PG’s totally done…”. Q: “What’s Jalen Brunson?”. Pitino: “Combo scoring guard. I don’t think he’s looking for the assist. I think he’s looking to score. And thank God he is…”

No surprise that they clipped 12 words from a one-minute answer because they had to create a graphic. Worth listening to the full quote in its entirety.

The good news:.A new generation of CBB writers is doing admirable work dragging coverage of this sport out of the dark ages and into the 21st century. The bad news: .It's still going to be awhile.

Ranking college basketball's best players, by positional archetypes. One of my favorite projects. - 2025-26 impact only. Not tilted toward NBA upside. - Numerous guys could fit in a few buckets. - Left off the brilliant Jayden Quaintance while he heals up from an ACL.

Not to give Deadspin credit for anything, but they were onto this shit more than a decade ago. Content created inorganically and only for the sake of spawning more content.

Among other reasons, I don’t really get up in arms over AI article content because a massive percentage of “real” article content is manufactured dogshit.

From last night. Exploring the taxonomy of bigs in CBB as more and more teams move (or pretend to) towards a "two-big" alignment.

Added in some borderline positional cases. The Mitchells (and Martinelli) required a new category. Hard archetype to fit b/c everything has to be built around it. Also came up with a rudimentary "spectrum" for scaling up in competition (a la baseball's defensive spectrum).

There are some tough use cases. HoopExplorer & Torvik algorithmically categorize Josh Jefferson as a wing forward (same as Mark Mitchell, Bilodeau, Martinelli, Darrion Williams) so he missed my original cut-off. Jefferson would join McGlockton in this extremely vital category:

So much of this is, of course, driven by Florida's success, but more than a few teams are going to walk into a trap because their dual-big alignment isn't versatile enough to function. Florida is unique. They're not just sticking two plodders down there.

I've seen a lot of chatter this offseason RE: the return of two-big lineups. What does this mean in modern CBB?. I asked GPT (using ONLY HoopExplorer's play type charts) to label the 30 best returning bigs (PF, C and PF/C) by archetype to show the wide range of possibilities.

Another P5 team with absolutely zero interest in even attempting to make the Tournament and whose only purpose at this point is to siphon money from its conference rev sharing arrangement. There's a whole bunch of these barnacle programs now.

Easy to blame media for this (and it’s deserved), but the fans are the real problem. They demand 24/7 content about the “battle” for the backup practice squad tight end spot and media responds in-kind by gassing up the backup practice squad tight end w/ ridiculous puff pieces.

My favorite part of the NFL season is taking place right now. "(insert player name) looks great so far in camp and is poised for a breakout this year.". We'll call this the optimism and hopium portion of the schedule.

30 seconds of reading Tanner’s background and its apparent he’s not a “basketball guy.” Former M & A lawyer at Skadden and an influential players’ agent. We’re probably only a year or two away from some team outsourcing its roster building to McKinsey.
