This attitude is why I loathe academic networking and conferencing. People decide your value based on the university listed on your name badge. There are brilliant people everywhere. Some don’t get the opportunity to share that brilliance because clout chasing is the norm.

If you did not realize that Canada’s most prestigious awards were set to poverty wages and that makes you uncomfortable - I am sorry, but imagine how uncomfortable your students must be living on them. Yes there will be growing pains, but this is still a much needed win.
Omg people complaining about paying students more. You may not be able to do it right away. Give as much as you can. Claw back on student # as they graduate. Yes, it will be hard. But its harder for them. You're not the one living in poverty.
