Father of two awesome teenage girls, RotoWire's Senior Editor, host of RotoWire Fantasy Sports Today on Sirius/XM Satellite Radio (SiriusXM 87). NU '93.
MLB: "We're offering you 33 cents on the dollar."
MLBPA: "No. Not even close."
MLB: "What if we offer you a quarter, a nickel, and three pennies?"
Everyone: "MLBPA needs to compromise, MLB is making a good faith offer."
You know how parking garages have signs to not leave your valuables in the car? Fun fact - it’s with good reason. We went back into Venetian one hour after checkout and came back to this. Laptops, suitcases, backpacks, all gone. Use the Bell Desk, kids.
"We were all set to trade for relief pitching at the trade deadline but then our bullpen blew too many leads for it to matter, so we're standing pat."
- Reds front office
Which teardown is more cynical - A's or Reds? The owners just won the CBA negotiations, the players paid the ransom, yet Castellini and Fischer shot the hostages anyhow. At least spare us the "... this was a baseball trade ..." nonsense.
My least favorite type of player in fantasy football is the one that is not good enough to start for you, yet you're afraid to drop them. Antonio Gibson and D.J. Moore fit that description.
The Reds' broadcast interviewed Andrew Abbott's parents during a standard "debut" segment, except that Abbott's folks were far more forthright than most. His dad said that he'd been nibbling too much that inning, and you'll see different going forward. Sure enough, we have.
Just devastated to hear the news about my friend
@lawrmichaels
, who passed away today. Such a joy to be around. Did so much for fantasy sports and the people involved in it. I already miss him.
Elly De La Cruz is up to 10 Ks in 18 plate appearances. I'm not suggesting drastic action should be taken by the Reds yet, but he's had some really tough plate appearances so far.
The NFL had six teams on bye last week, including ATL & NOR, who are playing each other. Shouldn't they play each other Thursday night, instead of two teams that played on Sunday afternoon? NFL scheduling always confounds me.
Imagine waiting 10 years to have the honor of voting for the Baseball Hall of Fame, and then submitting a blank ballot with your first entry. I just ... can't.
@billbarnwell
But Bill, he took on all that risk! Sure, the NFL has a monopoly, a broken union and insane locked-in profits from tv money every year, but risk!
Just saw my first anti-gaming in California ad. It was interesting to see DraftKings and FanDuel called out in the ad, and for gambling addiction being cited as the reason. Interesting, because the ad was sponsored by the local casinos.
I complain about broadcasts a lot, so here's one positive - I really like the ESPN graphic on MNF where they list the skill position players on the field pre-snap. It's unobtrusive yet informative.
Initial projection for Shogo Akiyama on the
#Reds
- .298/.382/.478, 23 HR, 104 R, 73 RBI. He's a good player - just hope that his foot is fully healed by the time spring training roles around.
I complain about broadcasters too often, so here's a positive tweet - I enjoy how consistently awesome Don Orsillo and Mark Grant are on Padres broadcasts. I'm not a Padres fan necessarily, but they frequently are my primary late-night watch because of the broadcast quality.
I'm looking forward to joining the ESPN2 KBO broadcast tomorrow morning, roughly around 7:00 a.m. ET / 4:00 a.m PT. The KBO has been great for those of us in the fantasy sports community, and I'm excited to discuss that with
@PerezEd
and
@karlravechespn
!
Every time a team wins on the first possession of overtime we see all these think-pieces on how to "fix" overtime. How about fixing the defense to stop a team on 3rd-and-10 one time?
"We saw some bad pitching over the weekend, only eclipsed by bad hitting. We lost 2 of 3 to the Diamondbacks. But Tejay Antone Day? I like Tejay Antone Day."
Neat:
"They bought the Cubs during a global financial meltdown, getting the club, Wrigley Field and a 25% stake in Comcast Sports Net (now known as NBC Sports Chicago) for a steal at $845 million. The team alone is now worth an estimated $3.2 billion, according to Forbes."
.
@PWSullivan
: Some believe the Cubs’ owners face a more dire forecast than most of their peers because of their investments in Wrigleyville, the Marquee Sports Network and the rooftops. Would they ultimately be forced to sell off high-priced players?
This might have been the worst fantasy playoffs weekend I've ever encountered. So many elite guys having miserable games, ones that we have been able to rely upon all season. Injuries at the worst moment, too.
Proud parent moment - that’s Ally serving to close out a set. She went on a run of 14 in a row for team. Meanwhile, Erin had a similar run earlier for the frosh/soph team to end a set. Friday was a great day for the Erickson girls!
WARNING: This is a perturbed
#HOF
vote tweet, for those that want to filter.
As far as I can tell, Michael Hunt hasn't covered baseball since 2014, yet still has a vote. How is that even possible?
I hate, hate, hate the notion that if a fielder doesn't touch a ball, it can't be ruled an error. The pop-up dropping between Davidson and Andrus for the A's has to be assigned to the defense, and not to the pitcher. Maybe call it a team error?
Most of you don't want to hear this, but trading Betts is the right move. If Betts were any priority for the Red Sox, they would have signed him by now.
Airlines change fees are just the worst thing ever. Why should
@united
get away with charging $200 per ticket to change a flight three months in advance? You're still flying their airline, and they'll be able to sell the ticket. What a ridiculous policy.
The thing about TLR that ticks me off the most is that he's trying to make himself look better at the expense of his rookie player, especially with the whole "take sign" comment. Even if Mercedes missed a sign, keep that shit in-house.
BREAKING: The Los Angeles Angels have placed starter Lucas Giolito, relievers Matt Moore and Reynaldo López, and outfielders Hunter Renfroe and Randal Grichuk on waivers, sources tell ESPN. Huge potential playoff implications: All can be claimed by teams for free on Thursday.
I'm excited to announced that tomorrow's
@RotoWire
MLB podcast will be with
@FantasyCentral1
! We'll discuss news of the day, early reactions to the season, Micah's late-night MLB threads, and what he's doing for
@Fantrax
and
@FantasyBallUni1
. Send us questions please!
Ok, not that I'm really a candidate to drive a GMC truck let alone buy one, but between how obnoxious and omnipresent the "his-and-hers" commercial is, I will never ever buy one.
I feel the Mets, including their broadcast booth, have taken crazy pills. Hoskins' crime yesterday was trying to break up a double play? I know that McNeil said he wasn't trying to turn it, but (a) it didn't appear that way to me, and (b) how is Hoskins supposed to know that?
So the Bengals lost, badly. Liverpool lost. My DFS lineup was not great. Half of my Survivor entries did not survive.
But today was a really good day. One of the best days.
Merry Christmas everyone! I'm grateful to be a part of this awesome fantasy sports community that enriches my spirit every day! Thank you for all that you for me and for
@RotoWire
!
When you see Statcast data like we have tonight from Oneill Cruz, imagine not wanting Statcast data. Having that our disposal enhances the game so much.
When Mayock sent the latest letter with the $200K fine and the revocation of the guarantees in AB’s contract, he had to know this would happen, right? This had to be intentional.
If you haven't heard the promos or heard us talk about it on-air or here on Twitter,
@RotoWire
is moving back to daytime radio during
@SiriusXMFantasy
's baseball slate, from noon-to-2:00 ET.
@wha1en
and I are so excited for this upcoming season!
Back home from Vegas after a whirlwind trip to draft in
@TheNFBC
Main Event today! Drive home was super-smooth. Looking forward to writing up the league/draft, and talking about it on
@SiriusXMFantasy
tomorrow! Big thanks to
@GregAmbrosius
@TomKessenich
and company!
Ugh, the full Royce Lewis experience - homers in his first at-bat, leaves with a hamstring injury running the bases in his second time through the order.
I'm going on vacation tonight through next Monday and as part of that I'm also going to take a Twitter vacation - at least, I'm going to attempt to do so. Please direct all lineup and FA questions to
@Chris_Liss
, and all pun requests to
@ScottJenstad
.
I still don't get why the Cardinals are trying to make Jordan Hicks a starting pitcher. He hasn't meaningfully worked in that role since 2017 and wasn't especially great at it. Now he's coming off of a 13-inning season, preceded by a zero-inning season. What am I missing?
