Ben Cherington’s best draft picks are when he’s gone for pure upside over everything else and didn’t get tangled up in other factors. Seth Hernandez might have the highest upside of any player in this draft.

Saying the Pirates can’t develop pitching is just pure hating. Give them credit for the one thing they do well at least.

It’s because Ben Cherington failed to address the same issues adequately twice. Once at last year’s deadline and again last winter. He got really close to figuring it out but failed to be aggressive enough to chase winning. Cherington is too analytical all the time.
Remember the 2024 All-Star break? . Paul Skenes had taken the world by storm. The Pirates were 1.5 games out of the wildcard. It’s safe to say there are different vibes connected to the team, this time around. I wrote about it in this week’s “Off the bat”:.
