AI finally caught up to the ambitions we had when we founded the company a decade ago.
When a new technology arises, there are always some existing startups that seem as if they'd been designed in anticipation of it. E.g. smartphones and Facebook. This will be true of AI too. There are some existing startups it's just going to blast forward.

We’ve been doing this for 10 years. Built up the same calluses around the market for the same reasons. But this time feels different. A few reasons/hypotheses this may be happening:
“This AI is so powerful that widespread adoption will inevitably happen, like the smartphone” yeah if buying a phone involved every member of your extended family and Uncle Frank blocks it bc he thinks rotary phones work just fine

This may be apocryphal, but I heard that Posner used to write the opinions without cites, and then tell his clerks to find precedent for the opinion.
If there was only contrary authority, he told the clerks to just put “but see” in front of the cites 😂

There’s this narrative going around that SVB’s failure impacts the ultra wealthy. But it’s dead wrong. It impacts these folks:
This is not tycoons sitting around with private jets. This is founders who work 120 hours a week trying to make a thing that never existed before. They didn't take any undue risk: they had money in one bank they thought was solvent, and that everyone thought was solvent.

1/ We're seeing efficiency mattering more every day. Clients don't pay for legal research hours or tools, alternative fee structures, and clients dumping expensive firms for smaller/cheaper are trends that are here to stay. AI will play an increasing role going forward.

Q4: Keep in mind what AI does, when used correctly: It increases efficiency. Most attorney comp structures reward inefficiency. So tying AI use to fee arrangements where efficiency is king is a good first start. Same with developing ancillary revenue sources.

Competitive pressure. Law firms are watching their competitors adopt the tech quickly and loudly. A definite feeling of either we do it or we might lose out. Especially true when a number of firms are competing over the same work with the same clients.
