The lightweight mayor is hurting the great police and other wonderful supporters. 72,000 ticket requests already. Dump Frey and Omar! Make America Great Again!
Someone please tell the Radical Left Mayor of Minneapolis that he can’t price out Free Speech. Probably illegal! I stand strongly & proudly with the great Police Officers and Law Enforcement of Minneapolis and the Great State of Minnesota! See you Thursday Night!
If most people, particularly people of color, had done what a police officer did late Monday, they’d already be behind bars.
That’s why today I’m calling on Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman to charge the arresting officer in this case.
For a man who complains so frequently about a lack of community trust and support for the police department, Bob Kroll remains shockingly indifferent to his role in undermining that trust and support.
On October 10, our entire city will stand not behind the President, but behind the communities and people who continue to make our city – and this country – great.
The President came to MN today - not to announce federal aid for businesses & workers who are hurting. Not to advance a racial justice agenda. Unifying & healing aren’t in his repertoire. He did what he knows. He peddled hate and division. Our country & our city deserve better.
I will continue to call Bde Maka Ska by its rightful name. That was the lake's name before people who look like me renamed it to honor a slavery apologist and — as far as I'm concerned — that is still its name today.
There are precedents and protocols sitting in the reserves of institutions like this one that will give you about a thousand reasons not to do something. To not speak out. To not move so quickly.
For a man who flip-flops as regularly as Donald Trump does, he has remained remarkably consistent about one thing his entire life: he really hates paying his bills.
Wrote this op-ed for
@washingtonpost

We've seen this playbook before. Trying to drive a wedge between Minneapolis and Greater Minnesota didn't work in 2018 and — with your help — it won't work in 2020.
THREAD: Trump is coming to Minnesota this week to break our blue wall and flip our state red in 2020. That can’t happen. We’re launching a

His categorical opposition to reform, his consistent disrespect for civilian leadership, and his lack of empathy for the community have done more to undermine trust in police than any “community activist” ever has.

Thank you, Amy. You represented Minnesota well.

For five minutes, we watched a white officer press his knee into a Black man’s neck. Five minutes.
This officer failed in the most basic, human sense."

Elijah Cummings' legacy could fill multiple books. An unrelenting voice for what’s right, regardless of the politics, and an inspiring defender of American cities.
Rest in peace, Congressman.

@staceyabrams
came to MN in late 2019. She warned against voter suppression and highlighted the work her
@faircount
team would be doing to engage communities of color, and specifically Black voters.
Our nation is grateful that Black women mean business.
I love this city.
Minneapolis we have surpassed what we did in 2016 - which means we just set a voting record!
Keep going. Get to the polls before 8:00 and stay there til you cast that ballot.
My extended family was slaughtered during the Holocaust. To me, Nazism isn’t a distant concept confined to history textbooks.
These actions aren’t just misguided — they’re a galling reminder of the work we have to do to stamp out hate and unite around a shared path forward.

Our police dept is not a political organization, neither Democrat nor Republican. I support Chief Arradondo’s vision for keeping the department apolitical & his new policy banning the use of the MPD uniform for political campaigning & union activities.
Sitting down with a bona fide patriot tonight,
@PreetBharara
. Very much looking forward to covering a lot of ground w/someone unafraid to stand their ground.
Chief Arradondo leads with integrity and compassion. We need to seize this moment. We need to tear down barriers that have prevented deeper reform and limited his work to fundamentally shift the culture within the MPD.

Minneapolis is doing nation-leading work on affordable housing and zoning reform. We are a city that says "Yes-In-Our-Backyard" to affordable housing in every neighborhood of our city.

Happy Fourth, Minneapolis. May we all find a moment of peace amid a trying time and recommit ourselves to the ever present fight for improvement, justice, and equality.

have not and will not cooperate with, nor participate in, any ICE raids. MPLS officials are prohibited from taking any action to detect or apprehend people based on their immigration status. Full statement & more info & here
Dar Al-Hijrah mosque in Cedar-Riverside will broadcast a Call to Prayer during the month of Ramadan. We worked with

Eid Mubarak! Eid Wanaagsan!
Muslims in MPLS & worldwide end Ramadan w/a day of joy, thanks, & charity known as Eid-Al-Fitr.
Eid is also an opportunity for us to appreciate the contributions that Muslims have made to our City. My best wishes to Muslims in MPLS & around the world
What happened to Ahmaud Arbery is beyond messed up (told I shouldn’t use expletives as mayor).
By all accounts, he loved spending his free time the same way I do: running. Today he should be w his family, celebrating his 26th w a chance to squeeze in a b-day run.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar asks Brett Kavanaugh if he has ever blacked out from drinking, and he turns the question back on her.
Kavanaugh: "You are asking about a blackout. I don't know. Have you?"
Klobuchar: "Could you answer the question, judge?"
New: The City of Mpls has an agreement to buy Kmart out of its lease at Lake & Nicollet for $9.1M. KMart will close by June 30 for demolition, under proposal.
I’m gathering more details now. Stay tuned.

People in our state living with chronic pain shouldn’t be collateral damage in the war on drugs. Neither should victims of mass incarceration. Prohibition on cannabis has failed. It’s past time MN responsibly legalizes and begins righting these wrongs.
A couple of months ago I had the honor of speaking at her naturalization ceremony to become a citizen. Today I knocked her door to make sure she had voted. Her response? “What are you kidding me!? Of course I voted - I’m a citizen!”

MN makes a lot of lists. One that we should be really proud of?
@AmyKlobuchar
ranks 1st out of 100 senators in the number of bills signed into law in 2015-16. Effective, hardworking, and smart as hell - look fwd to continuing to work w her.
Our zoning code has played an undeniable role in creating our affordable housing crisis and perpetuating segregation. We can't shut this conversation down before it even begins.
The professionals who ensure women can access safe reproductive healthcare do so despite threats of violence & the persistent push to undermine Roe v. Wade. That's why today is Abortion Provider Appreciation Day in Minneapolis.

We need Congress to cover 100% of rent and mortgages for those hardest hit by this recession.
If Congress can afford a $500 billion bailout for corporations, they can afford to make sure renters aren't staring down insurmountable bills in the months ahead.
One person in jail just for possession of marijuana is one too many. Marijuana laws have been used to target people of color for decades. We have made progress, but full legalization would mark a meaningful step toward reforming our criminal justice system

This isn’t a sprint, and we haven’t reached the finish line once reopening begins. There’s a tremendous amount of work to be done in the months ahead. And we need to be honest with the people we represent along the way.
“We have not met the moment. We have not prevailed.” - Minneapolis Mayor

There’s round-the-clock work underway in MPLS to support those experiencing homelessness, esp our Native community.
We’re lucky to count people like Autumn Dillie & orgs like the American Indian Community Development Corporation as allies in this fight.
