Please indulge me. Today is my big brother’s birthday. Dov has Down Syndrome and is unable to speak. Several weeks ago, he contracted COVID-19 and things looked bleak. The great news is Dov is tough like his mom + is now fully recovered. Please help me wish him a happy birthday.
Not meant to be cryptic (apologies if it comes across that way): Dan Snyder is going to be in trouble once the story comes out. Big trouble. Possibly no choice but to sell-the-team trouble. The story HAS to drop Thursday. Too much is starting to trickle out. See you tomorrow.
If you are from here or live here, you should have an added sense of pride tonight because DC-native and Gonzaga College High School alum Caleb Williams just became the first ever Heisman Trophy from the DMV. That’s a big deal. Congratulations young man.

Longtime DMV peeps remember the iconic “Surrender Dorothy” graffiti on the bridge over 495 near the Mormon Temple. Today, a new twist on the old sign.
@mymcmedia
True story. I’m at Angels-O’s game sitting in top deck. Early on, I turn to guy next to me and say, “If I catch a foul ball, I’m giving it your daughter.” He smiled. Top 5th, I nab a foul ball hit by Shohei Ottani. My first ever foul ball!! Do I keep it? Nope. Kept my promise.
I’m hearing that Warriors and Redtails might be the two finalists. And that Warriors probably wins out because it speaks to indigenous Americans and the military. And it’s the name Dan had picked out a few years ago just in case. And everybody loves alliteration. We’ll see.
Saw something last night not sure I’ve ever seen in a local newscast.
@SharlaMcBride
did a commentary ripping Adam Schefter for his insensitive + unnecessary comments about Dwayne Haskins in a breaking news tweet on his tragic death. Bravo Sharla.

The Golden Age of Sports TV in DC: George, Buck, Glenn and Frank. I had a ringside (actually poolside) seat for this iconic moment at Super Bowl XXII in San Diego. We (WTTG) were the only station that could pull off getting the four competitors sitting together on one set.
Very appropriate and classy of
@Evans_TerpsAD
to single out and thank Danny Manning for holding the program together after Turgeon’s abrupt mid-season departure. Manning deserves many kudos for handling a volatile situation with dignity and aplomb.

How many coaches would talk to a journalism class 4 hours after playing an NCAA Tournament game? One.
@BrendaFrese
was kind enough to do that tonight. Thank you Brenda +

Love all these “is Dan finally in real trouble?” stories suddenly. Welcome aboard peeps. We’ve been waiting and expecting you. There’s still plenty of seats available on the bandwagon for all you latecomers. To repeat: Dan is done!
Listen to Ralph Friedgen, who coached

to 2001 ACC Championship, discuss what he misses most about coaching. This is as poignant and reflective as I have ever heard Ralph.

George Santos will start at quarterback for the Commanders next week. He’s a 5-time Heisman Trophy winner from Alabama. Tremendous arm talent I’m told.
If I could attend one sporting event this week, the decision would be easy: Air Force at
@NavyFB
on the 20th anniversary of 9-11. Nothing will come remotely close. Including Djokovic going for calendar year grand slam + surpassing Federer + Nadal in majors. And I’m a tennis guy.
On this day 30 years ago, Art Monk, my favorite football player of all-time, set the NFL record for career receptions (820) on Monday Night Football vs the Broncos. Washington Post photographer Joel Richardson, who covered that game as did I for FOX5, gifted me these pics.
Confidence has been high about Dan having to sell for awhile. Admittedly, that confidence waned a bit after NFL’s whitewashing of the Wilkinson Report. But that confidence has been restored and is growing daily. Exponentially. We may be on the precipice of unprecedented drama.
Concert

in the books:
@BrunoMars
at the MGM was amazing. Stevie Wonder was in the house. For reals kids. But he didn’t perform. Bruno sang Ribbon in the Sky and Isn’t She Lovely. Bruno is as good a performer as I’ve ever seen. Up there w/Michael Jackson, Prince and Madonna.
Great to see most of the local TV stations (WUSA, ABC7, NBC4 and DCNewsNow) covering Maryland’s 1st and 2nd round NCAA games at Xfinity Center. From Brenda to the players, they’re a fun bunch to cover. They totally get it. Support women’s basketball!

The guest speaker for my next class: one of the greatest sportscasters of all-time, Bob Costas. When I told my students, reactions included: a “Yes!,”a “Woohoo!,” a “Really?,” a fist pump and a jaw drop. Cannot wait.

Incredibly proud of our team at
@mymcmedia
for winning 4 Emmys tonight, the most in the 37-year history of Montgomery Community Media. We are small but scrappy! Congrats to all the winners and nominees.
7 Emmys for
@mymcmedia
- an all-time MCM record - including the coveted Community Service Award. Congratulations to this amazing team and those who couldn’t be here tonight. We are small but very feisty!
@CapitalEmmys
Today’s lesson: Remember that awful head coach Jim Caldwell who averaged a 9-7 record for 4 seasons with the Lions (the LIONS!) and that wasn’t good enough? Careful what you wish for.
More from Super Bowl XXII in San Diego. We’ll call this one: Me and Jack. Remember when this franchise had great ownership? Jack Kent Cooke knew how to build a winner. And yes, I sported much more hair and many fewer pounds back in the day so back off.
34 years ago, I was covering Super Bowl XXII in San Diego for WTTG. Cameraman/great guy Cliff Herbert and I went to La Jolla to get beauty shots and looky who we found: Burt Reynolds and Loni Anderson. They could’ve turned away from us but instead, they posed. How cool is that?
35 years in the making, Maryland honors Len Bias. His mom Dr. Lonise and dad James, two of the most amazing people you’ll ever meet, received a loud, heartwarming standing ovation. This was a BIG DEAL.
Happy 78th birthday to

If you’re sitting down, stand up for Stras. If you’re wearing a cap, tip it. This is an all-time post-season performance. Up there with Riggo, Ovi and Doug.
Sports television royalty Bob Costas joined our class tonight. He had the students (and the professor) eating out of his hands. If he’s not on your Mount Rushmore of sportscasters, you should reassess right now.

Overwhelmed by all the birthday wishes for my big bro. Wow. Dov doesn’t quite get the Twitter thing but our mom is over the moon happy as is the rest of my family. Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone for your kindness. It means a lot.
Still amazed at this story. The kid wins the Heisman in lacrosse then transfers to a D2 school to play football, plays QB and wins a natty. That is not normal.
Here is a look at former Maryland lacrosse All-American and 2021 Tewaaraton Award Winner Jared Bernhardt on the broad jump.
Bernhardt won a DII football title at QB with Ferris State last season.
Thanks to our special guest speaker, new Terps hoops coach Kevin Willard. And yes I admit it. I blasted Earth, Wind & Fire’s September at the beginning of class. How could I not? It’s the 21st night of September for gosh sakes.

Why was Darrell Green a great? Because those of us who watched all 20 - not 19 - of his seasons concluded that he was great by using our eyes. Not impressed by 54 INTs? Deion “only” had 53. Why? Because teams stopped throwing at him. Same with Green. Thanks for your question.
This may be the fastest reload in history. Wow.
@BrendaFrese
does not mess around. And she’s not done yet. Expect one or two “bigs” to be added to the roster soon. Star bigs are not easy to find but Brenda is searching high and low I’m told.

When you watch Roger testify today, think about all the women who worked for the Commanders and all the crap they had to endure in a very toxic workplace atmosphere. Really think about them and how their experiences still effect them and probably always will.
Thank you
@jaybilas

What a great crowd and atmosphere Friday night in College Park for an old school ACC match-up vs UVa. Live to see it. The Shawne Merriman Lights Out thing was very cool.

The Capital Centre back in the day. Home of the Bullets, Caps, Hoyas, Capital Classic, concerts, boxing, inauguration celebrations and more. Great memories. I always called it the Pringle Dome. Missed sponsorship opportunity.
RIP Don Shula. One of my all-time “gets” was getting Shula and
@JoeGibbsRacing
together with
@SteveBuckhantz
in August of 1993 for a Skins-Dolphins pre-season pre-game show in Orlando on
@fox5dc
. That’s a lot of W’s and Super Bowls in that pic.
One of the absolute greatest athletes in the history of Montgomery County, Mike Curtis, has died at the age of 77. Curtis played at Richard Montgomery High School, Duke and the Baltimore Colts. RIP.
A fun moment right after the Ten O’Clock News circa 1988-89. That’s
@SteveBuckhantz

@suepalkafox5dc
. Great memories.

Back in the day (pre-internet), did you ever call the George Michael Sport Machine line for scores and news? 202-362-4444. Are you old enough? Ya me either.
Other than for medical visits, it’s not everyday a sitting President comes to Montgomery County. Great job by our
