Great to see children so focused on foundational maths skills in Ghana, each with their own workbooks. Thank you to #EducationOutcomesFund for their partnership with the Government of Ghana, including with UK support.

This week I'm in Ghana to see modern development in action. UK expertise and investment here are helping to drive growth, strengthen healthcare and give children a better education. This is a partnership to deliver lasting prosperity for both the British and Ghanaian people.

Learning = Growth A 1 SD increase in test scores is linked to a 1.4–2% rise in GDP growth. Stronger than years of schooling alone. 📘Synthesis by What Works Hub for Global Education: The benefits of foundational learning to individuals and society

Over 10,500 children and over 400 teachers killed in Gaza. At least 16,000 children and 2,500 teachers injured. Some now with lifelong disabilities. Education has to restart at scale to provide safety, structure, and hope. For all children in Gaza.

Around 240 million children live with disabilities. They are twice as likely never to attend school and four times more likely to experience violence. We cannot achieve SDG4 without specific action to support children with disabilities. #IDPD2024

An estimated 246m girls and boys experience violence at or on the way to school globally every year. Addressing school violence is central to overcoming obstacles to universal schooling, the right to education and achieving wider gender equality objectives #RightsFreedomPotential

To create impactful interventions against violence, we must understand what it looks like in all its forms. We researched school-related violence in Sierra Leone's secondary schools to understand how to improve learner safety. https://t.co/VYZjNaLEf7 #16DaysOfActivism

And we need to reach all refugee and displaced children with quality education, wherever they are. To provide safety, structure, a sense of normalcy, and hope for the future. For children, their parents, and our planet.

Highly impacted. Under-reported. The climate crisis has been wreaking havoc on displaced people for years and the worst could be yet to come. Unless we act. No Escape is the first report of its kind and just in time for #COP29. Read more: https://t.co/9TTwsQxgFB

And we need children and young people to understand why; and to marvel at the power of nature. Quality education for all children, everywhere, is essential to build understanding and respect for our single planet for which we are all custodians for the generations of the future.

You may not know this, but nature is our greatest ally against the #ClimateCrisis. As wildfires, floods, and droughts escalate, it's clear we need urgent action. Nature is key to the solution—it’s time to truly value it. #COP29 #ActForOurPlanet

We want to hear children's voices. And support them to gain a quality education, including foundational learning outcomes. Plus awareness and understanding of the climate crisis, environmental degradation, and loss of nature/biodiversity. And how to secure a liveable planet.

Trained and competent leaders, particularly female leaders, can radically improve learning outcomes for their pupils. The 2024 GEM-R explains how. 1. Trust and empower. 2. Select, develop and recognise. 3. Share. 4. Invest in system leaders. Essential reading.

#ECW funds quality education even in crises through teachers who deliver good learning outcomes. But refugee teachers need to heal from their own trauma before they take on responsibility for the refugee children. Psycho-social services, decent pay, and safety are all essential.
