I spent nine incredible years in this laboratory at @Loke_CTR. The support, mentoring, and inspiration from Amanda and her team were truly exceptional. I wholeheartedly recommend anyone with a passion for research to apply!
The @PerriLab at the @Loke_CTR has two open positions. The lab focuses on studying the importance of the placenta in pregnancy and lifelong health. - Chief lab technician: https://t.co/fdte9bDtK6 Research Associate: https://t.co/Q7oLiLNZQG

📷Jorge López-Tello @UAM_Medicina

Moreover, we identify new proteins in the junctional zone that correlate with fetal weight, fetal glycaemia, and placental weight. Interestingly, the placental layers show distinct metabolic adaptations — the junctional zone and labyrinth are not the same!

Here, using germ-free mice we provide proof of concept that Bifidobacterium can modulate >400 proteins in the mouse junctional zone (JZ), revealing remote microbial control over placental endocrine pathways.

In 2022, we showed, for the first time, that the gut microbiota of the mother controls the morphogenesis of the placental labyrinth zone (PMID: 35760917) — findings later confirmed by others. However, the endocrine region of the placenta, has been largely overlooked.

Thrilled to share our new paper on Bifidobacterium in pregnancy! This is the first demonstration that a gut bacterium can remotely control the endocrine function of the placenta! Another great collaboration with @Halllab and @PerriLab. Details below 👇 https://t.co/ylxlmej3oE

Background Recent studies have shown that the maternal gut microbiota can regulate placental growth, particularly the transport region, in association with fetal growth. However, the specific role of...
