Now is not the time for complacency. Instead, raise your expectations even higher. Be proactive, be consistent, and remember: the work you do in September sets the tone for the entire year.

2. Students are not yet meeting your expectations. That’s okay—September is the perfect time to reset. Habits and routines are still forming, so revisit your expectations, reteach your routines, and make that extra call home if needed. Every effort you make pays off

Invest time now to explicitly teach, model, and praise the behaviours you want to see all year. This is your chance to build a strong foundation for future learning.

1.Students are behaving well in your lessons. Fantastic! But don’t assume those positive habits are set in stone. The best time to reinforce expectations is when things are going well.

That means the routines you set now will shape the rest of the year—so take nothing for granted. Consider these two scenarios

Win September, win the year. September is a crucial month for establishing routines and expectations in your classroom. Research suggests that forming a habit can take anywhere from 30 to 60 repetitions, or about 4 to 6 weeks.

Every Sunday I schedule "closing the day" emails for the week. A quick staff reminder at the end of each day to log positives/negatives, call parents and set homework. Staff close down all tasks ready to start the next day fresh. Little effort with big impact
