Tribute from Dr. Gladys Kalema-Zikusoka to Dr Jane Goodall I am deeply shocked by the passing of a legend who touched countless human and animal lives. I received the news just before I gave a talk at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, and we held a moment of silence

@HungaryHelps These changes are helping make school safer and more accessible for all learners. Girls in particular now have better support to stay in school and thrive. Supporting access to education is central to our mission—for people, animals, and the environment. 🌍

Until recently, many students and teachers had to pay for boats, use unsafe canoes—or swim—to reach school. This led to absenteeism, poor performance, and dropout, especially among girls. These weren’t just education issues—they were safety issues.

Bwama Primary School serves 477 learners on Lake Bunyonyi’s largest island. It's the only school on the lake. For decades, students faced serious barriers: 🚫 No safe transport 🚫 No clean water 🚫 No staff housing 🚫 Poor hygiene facilities, esp. for girls

🏫 On a remote island in Uganda’s deepest lake, students once swam or paddled to reach school. Today, that’s changing. JGI Uganda is working with partners to improve access to education—especially for girls—on Bwaama Island. 🧵 #HopeThroughAction #JGIUganda

This is the first time both chimpanzees & mountain gorillas are being surveyed concurrently in Bwindi—one of Africa’s richest ecosystems. The results will guide conservation, strengthen habitat protection, & deepen regional collaboration.
