The visit featured tree planting and forest exploration activities led by Kibuka and Mununa, equipping participants with practical skills. It concluded with a renewed commitment from the champions to take action in protecting Uganda’s forest heritage & promoting sustainability.

Mr. John Kibuka, Sector Manager for Mpanga, highlighted the importance of regenerated trees and the forest’s eco-tourism potential, including Uganda’s best butterfly identification sites and birdwatching areas.

Eva Ntara from @FAOUganda @FAOForestry expressed concern about rapid loss of forest cover & called on the youth to increase tree planting efforts to boost forest cover & benefit from carbon trading. She emphasized their critical role in promoting sustainable forest mag't.

Young Forest Champions Visit Mpanga CFR. @NFAUG in partnership with the @FAOUganda & @youthgogreen, concluded the Young Forest champions workshop with a visit to Mpanga CFR. The aim is to offer participants hands on experience in forest conservation & management. #Forestsforall

He emphasized the need for developing nature trails, improving tour guide capacity & enhancing forest attractions. Maureen echoed the importance of eco-tourism as a sustainable source of revenue for the Authority.

“Our forest reserves are a sleeping giant in terms of tourism potential. With the right packaging and visibility, we can attract both local and international tourists,” said Boaz. “NFA must prioritize tourism Dev’t as a key part of our revenue strategy” indicated Boaz

During a planning meeting held at the Budongo Systems Range (BSR) office, the BSR Manager, Mr. Boaz Basigirenda, and AAA Maureen Kabajungu met with eco-tourism staff and sector managers to chart a new path for tourism growth in forest reserves.
