🏫 On a remote island in Uganda’s deepest lake, students once swam or paddled to reach school. Today, that’s changing. JGI Uganda is working with partners to improve access to education—especially for girls—on Bwaama Island. 🧵 #HopeThroughAction #JGIUganda

Bwama Primary School serves 477 learners on Lake Bunyonyi’s largest island. It's the only school on the lake. For decades, students faced serious barriers: 🚫 No safe transport 🚫 No clean water 🚫 No staff housing 🚫 Poor hygiene facilities, esp. for girls

Until recently, many students and teachers had to pay for boats, use unsafe canoes—or swim—to reach school. This led to absenteeism, poor performance, and dropout, especially among girls. These weren’t just education issues—they were safety issues.

@HungaryHelps These changes are helping make school safer and more accessible for all learners. Girls in particular now have better support to stay in school and thrive. Supporting access to education is central to our mission—for people, animals, and the environment. 🌍
