Many Afghan refugees in Pakistan struggle to find work and make ends meet. Naiko lives near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. He received educational training from @RESCUEorg, thanks to EU 🇪🇺 support, and is excited to become financially independent.

We came back to Afghanistan in May 2022 and since lived in Kabul. Recently we traveled to the north and east of the country. We returned from this trip with impressions, images, and memories that were positive for some and disturbing for others. https://t.co/9NdVZScNfJ

"The “frozen funds” policy is harmful, unethical, unacceptable and at odds with human rights values. UAI has repeatedly advocated for the release of the sovereign reserves to help stabilize and grow the Afghan economy." @UAI_Initiative @UnfreezeAfghan #Afghanistan

We call on anyone perturbed by the situation in #Afghanistan to engage, locally and globally, as appropriate, to bring an end to a policy of manufactured poverty and disregard for the fundamental rights of Afghan citizens. https://t.co/8CbearGRJs

We emphasize 1) the need for a functioning economy as deprivation and displacement grows while humanitarian support plummets & 2) the monitored release of frozen assets as millions of hungry children face acute food insecurity. #ReleaseFrozenAfghanFunds

UAI Statement: #USA and #European governments' policy to block the re-capitalization of @AFGCentralbank – not releasing external reserve assets, US$9.1 billion, seized in 2021 – amounts to the collective punishment of impoverished Afghans.

Even if I stayed in Tokham a few hours only I could see well organised support to returnees thanks to a good cooperation UN - NGOs and local authorities. Capacities of the different actors still need to be beeffed to cope with the large influx of people.

"Part of the funding will also support Afghan refugees returning to Afghanistan" Wise decision by @eu_echo to support Afghans in difficulties after being forced to leave neighbouring countries. Yesterday I visited Tokham one of the two main crossing points Afghanistan -Pakistan
We stand by our word & continue helping vulnerable Afghans. With an extra €61 million in humanitarian aid, @eu_echo is bolstering nutrition support, shelter, protection and more. 🙏 A lifeline for Afghan returnees and those affected by earthquakes. 🔗 https://t.co/64EhZuI6Z0

Very positive step by @JuttaUrpilainen on #Afghanistan. Those funds complement @eu_echo humanitarian funding. #EU should also explore how to lift economic sanctions, which are the main reasons for economic and humanitarian crisis for last 2 years. @UAI_Initiative @UnfreezeAfghan
I announced at #UNGA our 🇪🇺 decision to provide €140 million worth basic needs support to #Afghanistan people. These funds are released following 6-month trial period and assessment of the “for women by women” principle. Our aid will not go through the Taliban structures.

As someone witnessing the suffering of Afghans on a daily basis, I fully agree. Last year @WFP_Afghanistan provided support to 23 million Afghans. Today to 2 million only. Let's put geopolitics aside, provide necessary assistance & support to economy recovery. @UAI_Initiative
“This goes beyond politics” WFP is forced to cut 10 million people from life-saving assistance. Hsiao-Wei, WFP’s country director in Afghanistan, tells us what that means for them 👇
