Citizens, please be aware that the City has put in place an ill-advised plan during the snow emergency. They are having police officers certified as EMTs respond to medical and trauma dispatches normally handled by IAFF Local 22 paramedics and EMTs. We have no idea what equipment

This is what the extended response time gap looks like (red). When a ladder truck is unavailable, response distances increase and response times can follow. Our members will always respond — but they need the tools and apparatus in service to do the job safely and effectively.

Clearing out your locker after 25 years of dedicated service with @dcfireems, you find a careers worth of items. Lt. Michael Shane Ridgeway did just that, & passed along the contents to the firefighters and his succeeding officer at Engine 4. Congratulations on your retirement.

Today in 1993, two U.S. Blackhawk helicopters are shot down over Mogadishu, Somalia. 18 Americans are killed and 73 are wounded during the fight to recover the crews. Hundreds of Somalis die in the battle. The debacle leads to a scaling back of America's mission in the region.

These dudes walked into certain death to protect their friend. It’s important who a society decides are its heroes. Live your life like someone died to make it possible because they did.

“It was midafternoon, October 3, 1993. Eversmann’s Chalk Four was part of a force of U.S. Army Rangers and Delta Force operators who were about to drop uninvited on a gathering of Habr Gidr clan leaders in the heart of Mogadishu, Somalia.”

A roof rope rescue, where a firefighter is lowered by rope when there is no other option to save someone, is an extremely dangerous procedure that requires precision. Here Batt. 6 & Special Ops units practice for when that day comes. Every day is a training day for #DCsBravest
