I feel so bad for Mitchell Robinson, who tried to play basketball today but couldn’t because Joel Embiid took him out of the last game with several non-basketball plays.
i feel so bad for embiid. beyond trying to just be on the floor, he tried to make big plays - the brunson pressure, the layup attempt - and match the knicks physicality and just couldn’t quite do it.
The Knicks made us crawl through 500 yards of shit smelling foulness tonight before we tasted the sweet freedom of this Quickley, RJ, Knox, Obi & Mitch lineup.
RJ Barrett: “I’m proud of us laying a foundation for the future, getting the Knicks back on the right track.”
Adds, “Shoot, I’m 20. I’m hoping to be here for a long time”
Sounds excited for what’s in store moving forward.
This is fascinating. The Knicks did NOT need to move this much salary to give Brunson a four-year, $100 million deal. It would seem that there is something more than Brunson at play here.
The Knicks are trading center Nerlens Noel and guard Alec Burks to the Pistons, sources tell ESPN. The Knicks will unload $19M more in salary, clearing the way for cap space to try and sign free agent guard Jalen Brunson.
The Knicks just came up huge in the clutch to beat the Clips on the road, in a game LA was fully healthy and trying, to get a win they desperately needed with real stakes on the line.
This just fully hit me.
8 points in 8.9 seconds happened on my 12th birthday party.
I’ve waited nearly three decades for something to happen that would make up for it.
It was worth the wait.
(I still can’t breath)
Disheartening to see the voters recognize a guy on a last place team, playing with zero stakes, over a kid who was positively instrumental on a playoff team. Knicks are a 9-10 seed without him. There is no universe where Quickley shouldn’t be on the 1st Team. None. Absurd.
Are people seriously upset about the Rivers deal? The Knicks (who, by the way, no one is dying to come play for) got a 28-year-old rotation player for # roughly $1 million per year over what his minimum salary would be.
Folks, I think our standards may be a *weeee* bit too high.
51 y/o former player: "the Knicks aren't cool"
31 y/o current player: "the Knicks aren't cool"
19 y/o kid who couldn't wait to get drafted by New York: "Yo, I'm a Knick!"
🤔🤔🤔
Kevin Durant’s radio remarks Knicks “aren’t a cool team right now” to league’s young players who don’t know history are eerily similar to my Kenny Smith interview.
Taj calls this season & playing for the team he grew up rooting for "surreal." Says that when he and Thibs were in Chicago, they'd talk about the 90's Knicks & Jeff VanGundy, and what it would be like to be on a winner there someday.
Guess dreams do come true after all.
RJ Barrett: “Whether its me personally or the team, we just get disrespected all the time.” Says the team pays it no mind, but at the same time, it makes winning that much more fun.
Derrick Rose says he wasn’t worried about RJ Barrett after a rough first half... “48 minutes of basketball”.
Did call RJ a perfectionist, and mentioned he has to talk to him during the game sometimes to get him out of his own head. Rose’s vet leadership can’t be understated.
Knicks have 2 All-Stars they signed to non-max contracts in free agency. Not sure if that’s ever happened before, but I’m quite certain it won’t ever happen again, at least not with anything close to the current CBA rules and contract structures.
I get complaining about Thibs. He makes it easy sometimes.
But after 23 games last season, the Knicks were 4-19 with the worst net rating in the NBA. Nobody gave a shit. No development was happening. The team was the laughing stock of the sports world
They're 10-13. Just sayin.
Horrifying to me that Julius Randle will get praised for that quarter because the threes fell. New York has a backup 4 that also hits 3’s and does none of the tomfoolery that is largely responsible for New York being down 16. Turnovers, lazy D, outright bad D…the whole package.
Totally makes sense that ESPN, which continues to prop up the people that have the most attention-grabbing takes meant for a populace that gets dumber by the day, would let go of their best and smartest NBA analysis.
What an absolute disgrace. Guess JVG should have yelled more.
Several reports linked Andre Drummond and the Knicks. But, as of earlier this week, there hadn’t been a significant push to acquire Drummond. More here:
It’s so painfully obvious that Obi Toppin has become the most important component for the Knicks to function at a high level on offense. Put him with a couple solid guards and let him cook.
(The defense ain’t bad either)
Part of why I have so much respect for the Heat is because of those 90's battles & how Mourning & Ewing fought so damn hard every game.
But for all his passion, Zo wasn't 1/100 the dirty player that Bam Adebayo is. Riles should be disgraced at what
#HeatCulture
has now become.
IDK if he’s going to get it or if the Knicks will give it to him, but Alec Burks is absolutely worth someone’s full mid level. Not a team in the league he can’t help. And this one desperately needs him.
Rewatching the game and it's staggering how many good early looks the Knicks missed that they've been automatic on seemingly for months
I know there's stuff down the stretch to be frustrated about but there's a good argument NY lost this game in the first 8 minutes, not the last
The New York Knickerbockers - owners of the 26th ranked defense 8 days ago after the Dallas debacle - currently have the 10th ranked defense in basketball.
New Knick Quentin Grimes mentions that he's been working with former Knick and current Memphis HC Penny Hardaway over the last 2 months. Also says he's already received texts from RJ Barrett & Immanuel Quickley.
Immanuel Quickley: "Outside of basketball, I don't really do anything anyway."
This was in response to whether he's gotten a chance to explore New York since being drafted, but still...if you wanted a gym rat Knicks fans, you got him.
All the excitement will be over Quickley - and justifiably so - but the notion that Knox might come out of this preseason with confidence in his shot is as big a development for the team as anything.
Might be getting ahead of myself here, but having watched this team for more years than I care to admit, it feels like we might be at the beginning of a snowball forming that could gain speed fast and lead to alllllll sorts of unpleasantness.
Julius Randle is getting MVP chants.
Never, ever, ever thought we’d hear them again after last season. But here we are.
Credit to him. He’s more than earned it.
Kyrie Irving - an offensive genius with the ball in his hands who has proven he can play a significant role in helping lead a team to a title - is probably my least favorite person in the NBA. Basketball and value stuff aside, I would really rather the Knicks not trade for him.
Meanwhile, Quentin Grimes has assured himself of a rotation spot for the rest of the year. Thibs has no choice. Needs to play. Some defensive and ball control issues but has more than made up for it.
Asked about what it's been like to play with Frank Ntilikina, Immanuel Quickley calls Frank a selfless teammate that puts the team first and works extremely hard. Says he's one of the best teammates he's had.
Knicks going down 24 at home in what feels like a must win game is certainly something the front office should consider when deciding how to approach this trade deadline.
Four-time All-Star guard Kemba Walker has agreed to a contract buyout with the Oklahoma City Thunder, and upon clearing waivers, plans to sign with the New York Knicks, sources tell ESPN.
