A 🧵. As a young girl growing up in Québec, Canada, I found my joy in smell of 🍁🍃🌿, the rhythm of rivers, & the quiet strength of the forest. I was a Girl Scout who loved canoeing & exploring nature, but I had no idea what I wanted to study. @USherbrooke @ISME_microbes . 1/.

This work supports a One Health approach to agroecosystem management. Microbiome research needs to move beyond one-off studies. Our work sets a precedent for reproducible, scalable designs in plant microbial ecology. 🍎🌿🧵6/7.

Our study highlights the➕for longitudinal, multi-site designs in plant microbiome research. It shows that reproducibility is not a given, even in the same system. To harness microbiomes for biocontrol & sustainable farming, we must account for spatiotemp var. 🍎🌿🧵5/7.

In our results, site & time are the strongest drivers of bacterial community structure for both y. Yet their relative influence shifts between y., according to the discrepancies in the abiotic conditions in May. Organic orchards had⬇️a-diversity than conv. ones. 🍎🌿🧵4/7

We sampled apple trees across 6 orchards (3 organic, 3 conventional) in Québec over 2 years. We looked at both leaves and flowers to capture seasonal and spatial variation. This📖has been led by Sophie since her final BSc year at @USherbrooke, when she was an intern. 🍎🌿🧵3/7

🌱 Plant microbiomes are key to sustainable agriculture. But many studies are limited in scope and rarely repeated. We asked:. ***How reproducible are the phyllosphere bacterial community patterns across space and time?***. 🍎🌿🧵2/7
