Proud of Brattleboro, VT which elected me this week to the selectboard, our town’s 5-member governing body. While our country faces unprecedented challenges, the ppl of Brattleboro have made clear they want affordability, safety, and shelter for our neighbors. #VTpoli

Less than 1/3 of Republicans support invading Venezuela. And only 9% of Dems, and 9% of Independents support such action. Most Americans want the U.S. to respect other countries. Let’s stand up for the American Constitution and Congress’ #WarPowers
@BeccaBalintVT @RepBeccaB
TELL YOUR HOUSE REP TO SUPPORT HR 64 Majority of Americans oppose the invasion of Venezuela House Resolution 64 was introduced to direct the removal of US Armed Forces from hostilities against Venezuela that have not been authorized by Congress Make the Call: 202-224-3121

Unhoused people in Brattleboro are at risk of losing one of the few grassroots/self-help community resources available to them. Time for us to come together. #VTpoli

Something I said in this interview, re: Gaza, and the U.S. role in the world: Until we recognize the US role—and that this is not some kind of aberration but a continuation of the way the US has shown up in the world—we’re going to miss the importance of Americans speaking up.
New on the Substack: How to organize on global justice. Politicians say voters don't care abt foreign policy. Wonks just focus on policy papers. @iefrantz + @theactioncorps organize ordinary ppl for just foreign policy. I interviewed him on what they do + what to learn from it

Yom Kippur, the Jewish day of atonement, has begun with sunset. Jews are taught to reflect on the ways that they have missed the mark this past year. It’s an opportunity for us all to do that, not just Jews. We can commit at this time to transform those wrongs in the year ahead.

I’m proud of Vermont’s congressional delegation. Now’s the time for the next step. #VTpoli
How do we stop Gaza genocide? In this article I call on @SenPeterWelch @SenSanders & @RepBeccaB to introduce resolutions per the Foreign Assistance Act & U.S. Constitution to compel Congress to debate &vote on the U.S. role in the genocide. #VTpoli

Turns out stopping genocide would be good for democracy too.
77% of Democratic voters think Israel is committing genocide. 8% of Democratic voters support Israel's military action in Gaza. Gillibrand is correct about 9 out of 10 elected Democrats being "pro-Israel." And that is exactly why no one believes them when they cry "democracy."

I'm horrified by the shooting of Charlie Kirk at a college event in Utah. Political violence has no place in our country.

Update: Lockout has been lifted, so no need to picket — at least for now.

The Brattleboro Reformer has reported that the lockout of the bus drivers and monitors has been dropped, and that they are now allowed back to work. Good news for students, families, and the people who drive our young people to and from school! #VTpoli
Happy #LaborDay! As billionaires try to take over our country, this is a key moment to stand with working people. Will you join us tomorrow, Tuesday, September 2, outside Brattleboro Union High School at 7:30am to stand with our school bus drivers and monitors? #VTpoli

This month the President vowed to forcibly remove unhoused people from DC. In Vermont, our state govt has removed families w/ young children and seniors w/ oxygen tanks from motels w/ no safe place to go. Vermont must do better. Here’s how: https://t.co/PH5Thl0PnV

Visited one of the motels here in Brattleboro, Vermont where people are being forced out of shelter today. People will very likely die as a result of this policy. Please consider supporting organizations like https://t.co/WftC5rilZf
Today 73 vulnerable adults and 34 children in Brattleboro, Vermont, will lose their shelter. This is the result of a policy decision by Vermont Gov. Phil Scott that may cause some of our neighbors to die. #VTpoli

Last night I was sworn into a one-year term on the Brattleboro Selectboard, the 5-person governing body for our town, which is Vermont’s 7th largest municipality w/ 12K+ residents. Challenges lie ahead, but I’m excited to serve. Photo by @CMaysBR of @BrattReformer #VTpoli
