New paper by Merkouriadi et al. @theAGU journal GRL shows that snow-ice can potentially form over most of the #Arctic Ocean. Snow-ice is much more likely in the Atlantic sector with more precipitation, and with thinner ice. https://t.co/AK7nlGF9H8 #NICE2015Arctic #npolar

Sea ice is formed via frozing of sea water and conversion of snow to ice. The latter, snow-ice, is difficult to measure but @IoMerk used a model and showed @FMI_Marine seminar today that snow-ice thickness is 10-50 cm, thickest at the Atlantic sector of the Arctic Ocean
