Just noticed one mutual I respected a lot unfollowed me at some point. That's disappointing but I do get impatient with Twitter a lot and am probably pretty unpleasant at times.

I saw "99 problems" trending so figured I'd point out that the original (and better, sorry) version of the song was actually done by @FINALLEVEL and part of 2 Live Crew like 30 years ago.

This lady's feed is insane. An almost perfect combination of radicalism and derangement. The AI doom cult is really something else.
The real issue here is whose side you *want* to be on. Not whose arguments you believe, on which side you *say* you’re on, but whose side you *wish* you could be on. If you wish you could side with OpenAI who you admire so much, idc if you say you know better— gtfo of our side.

My preferred framework seeks to define what moral decision-making entails, so that we can emulate it well to the degree that we want to individually and so we can set up social (dis)incentives that drive other agents to do so as well.

I believe that no one *ever* engages in moral decision-making directly in practice. To the degree that we're compassionate (or value the values of other agents) and value trying to be "moral," our DM can naturally emulate moral DM to varying degrees.

My preferred moral framework distinguishes "rational decision-making" from "moral decision-making." Rational DM seeks to optimize preferences of the individual deciding agent. Moral DM seeks to optimize preferences of multiple agents in a multi-agent scenario (or 'the world').

I vividly remember the time I mentioned playing chess on a third date like 20 years ago and seeing every bit of remaining interest instantly evaporate from her eyes. It was pretty surprising but ultimately a good thing. Probably saved me from wasting a lot of time.

Anyone who suggests that someone has to either believe AI is "safe" or it's going to kill us all should be written off as a hack.

I've probably spent several thousands of hours playing chess throughout my life and I still feel like an infant when it comes to fundamental understanding of the game.

Recently found out I'm gonna be a father, which is a surreal thing to learn in your mid 40s.

When I click "not interested in this post" on my timeline and it gives me the option to "show fewer posts from this person," I'm pretty sure it interprets that as "show a tweet (but only 1 tweet) from this person every time I click the home button for the rest of my life."

It's crazy how often I see this claim that no arguments against AI doom claims exist yet I've seen them countless times and posted many myself. It'd be one thing to, oh, idk, respond to the arguments, but to repeatedly claim they simply don't exist is laughably dishonest.

Helen Pluckrose just wrote a great piece that turns the idea that Christian values informed the West on its head. I hadn't really considered just how much the reverse is true: Western, secular, Enlightenment values turned Christianity liberal and pluralist!

The quote in the image makes it clear this isn't worthy of anyone's time.
It was long--100 minutes--and as much fun as any conversation I've had about the book. Michael's approach to intellectual disputes is exemplary--that is, without confrontation, straw men, or snark, and with lots of good humor.

Give me a fucking break. You think people spend that many hours doing something they don't actually want to be doing when they could easily just go do something else? What a joke.
I think a lot of people don't actually enjoy video games anymore but don't realize it, continuing to try and live vicariously through a younger version of themselves that did because they were happier back then.

"Trust me, guys."
Y'all, Donald Trump is term-limited. He'll be gone January 20, 2029. I think this obsession with believing he won't leave office is bad for people already struggling with mental health concerns. You are going to be okay. The country will be okay. The constitution will be okay.

Someone get this guy back on his meds.
The Antichrist is the system which models *you* and becomes whatever you believe is good. It is all things fair and wise and just and beautiful…as you understand them. The poison that tastes so perfectly delicious and healthy. The universal recommender. The whispering earring.
