Important differences. AN EPIDEMIC is a disease that affects a large number of people within a community, population, or region. A PANDEMIC is an epidemic that’s spread over multiple countries or continents. ENDEMIC is something that belongs to a particular people or country.

In this study, @MiyuMoriyama et al investigate how well SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern (VOC) suppress MHC I needed for recognition by cytotoxic T cells. This question is important to understand how well the virus limits CD8 killing 🧵(1/) @biorxivpreprint https://t.co/TLvnB7NotN

From ONS death certificates, 16,000 people have died so far in the Omicron wave. While this is far lower than the pre-vax Alpha wave in Jan 2021, it's almost the same as died during Delta wave - despite vaccination & in shorter time period. High nums of infections matter 6/14

@jneill This is how Boris Johnson’s government wants to “live with Covid”, leaving thousands of emergency patients waiting for hours. This is criminal, but the public seems fine with it or maybe they don’t understand the issue.

THREAD: State of the pandemic in the UK (esp England) Hospital admissions are best way to compare waves right back to start - we are on wave 7 now! 4 of which happened since last July. So cases & admissions are rising - why? does it matter? where are we 2 years in? 1/13

Immunologists agree 100%. Vaccines work and vaccines are everyone's best chance of not becoming I'll from #Covid19 and vaccines also reduce the chance of someone else being infected. Please get vaccinated (1 + 2 + booster). #VaccinesWork #BoosterJab #GetBoosted

Nonetheless numbers are really rising. Tuesday 868, Weds 1,275, and since I posted the first tweet Thursday’s figure has come out: 2,465. Which means the wave chart now looks like this:
