I do not need a person who happens to be white, to tell me that my life matters. If anything, it's incredibly condescending. I know my life matters because I do not define my self-worth by the validation of white people.
I cringe every time I hear the phrase "educate yourself". The irony is palpable. It's usually the most narrow-minded, uninformed, ahistorical, self-righteous people who say it.
I find it morally repugnant that many people are actually trying to make the case that criminal behaviour in the present day can be explained by the legacy of slavery and colonialism or by racism in general.
At what point do people become responsible for their own actions?
So far, I’ve not seen a single policy idea or specific proposal by Black Lives Matter activists to improve the material lives of blacks people or anyone for that matter. No vision. No ideas. All I’ve seen so far is an sustained assault on Britain as a whole.
I would rather have a tiny fringe group of far-right football hooligans in the country than a far-left cultural revolution that transforms the country into an identity-obsessed, dissent-free “safe space”.
We are, in part, witnessing the logical conclusion of telling an entire generation of people that their identity is the most important aspect about themselves, that there is no objective truth, and the primary organising principle of human interaction is power.
I think we need to be much more blunt and start just telling the perpetually offended to "get a grip".
Society is not your personal therapist neither is it your self-esteem coach. The constant discussion about who finds what offensive and why is frankly insufferable.
Can the media stop getting black people on to speak as if we are a monolithic group?
I support their right to protest but I do not endorse the protests in the UK or the Black Lives Matter group. I despise the rioting. And, I think that America is a flawed, but wonderful country.
There is absolutely nothing liberating abt identity politics. It encourages black people to feel victimised/oppressed and white people to feel guilty/shameful/self-loathing - all of which are unnecessary and counterproductive. How is that a recipe for freedom and social progress?
BREAKING: An independent inquiry into grooming gangs in Telford finds that "Unnecessary suffering and even deaths of children might have been avoided, had West Mercia Police (WMP) “done its most basic job” in acting on reports of such crime"
The assumption behind ‘diversity training’, ‘racial sensitivity training’, ‘diversity officers’ etc is that different racial groups cannot be trusted to live and mix with one another without being micromanaged.
What a tragic place we’ve come to...
The relationship between guilt-ridden white ppl (who are often also self-righteous), and black ppl who weild victimhood for economic and political gain is one of the most destructive, self-sabotaging and degrading social relations right now. It is a match made in hell.
Black Lives Matter is largely a pseudo-radical movement that robs people of their agency and manipulates the good-will of others to divide people and attain unearned power. If you want to change society, start with yourself, start at home.
Nobody wants a vitriolic political climate. But, only when Brexit is implemented will tensions be eased.
No to the Surrender Bill. No to this Parody Parliament.
The end of ‘woke’ thinking may, in part, come from the exhaustion of its followers. It requires self-destructive levels of emotionalism to sustain itself.
All of the gains of the last half-century or so are being rapidly reversed. We're sleepwalking into racial essentialism and racial segregation - in the name of "anti-racism".
This isn't just going to go away. We all have a responsibility to fight this.
“Educate yourself” “don’t be so loud” “get out of the way”...It’s bad enough seeing this smug, patronising &meaningless crap in a university student union but to see it from a ”public service broadcaster” is just intellectually insulting.
This isn’t a news report. This is disinformation and propaganda. How low they must regard their audience if they sincerely believe that people watching will not notice.
I do not consider aggressive attempts to increase "racial diversity" in the workplace as examples of social progress. The effects of such measures are to reinforce the grip of race in our consciousness and to emphasise that there is something important about racial difference.
Critiquing wokeness can actually be exhausting. Not just because their arguments are intellectually shallow, but because critiquing rarely actually works - as most of its adherents do not operate using reason. The movement is closer to a cult than a coherent ideology.
The more the woke left ramp up their attacks on ethnic minorities who do not toe the woke line, the more they expose themselves as having a 'vested interest' in maintaining the one-sided narrative that ethnic minorities are defined by racism and oppression.
To the people that complain about "systemic racism" in policing and the criminal justice system. Can they point me to anyone in prison right now who is there for their race alone and not because they have committed a horrendous crime?
Political leaders scapegoat sections of the population ("the unvaccinated") to deflect from their own failures. Scientists who dissent are discredited and smeared. Citizens asking reasonable questions are denounced as "deniers".
We're in the midst of a horrible, new Medievalism.
If you’re only interested in racial or ethnic disparities when it’s related to racism and not other factors such as problematic internal cultural norms and patterns of social behaviour for example, then you’re not interested in racial or ethnic disparities.
All of the racism that I have experienced over the last few months have come from people in the remainer ‘left’. I’ve been called nearly every name under the sun. They cannot fathom to see a black woman that doesn’t subscribe to their divisive, victim narratives. No more lies.
There is a fundamental crisis of good faith and generosity. If we are to live in a diverse society, misunderstandings, slights and faux pas are inevitable. How we respond to them will be the difference between a tolerant and cohesive society or a paranoid and fractured one.
Watched My Generation on BBC2 last night about 1960s Britain presented by Michael Caine. So wonderful to see working class people at the forefront of much of cultural, intellectual and political life. Really hits home how things have changed and gone backwards. What happened?
One of the (many) problems with phrases like “white supremacy” and “systemic racism” is that they are so poorly defined that they end up being used to explain anything and everything, which effectively leads to them explaining absolutely nothing.
I genuinely don't see any point in this government anymore. So far they've utterly failed to meet even a fraction of the aspirations of most of the people who voted for them in 2019.
"The alternative is worse" argument is wearing thin.
ID politics wants us to judge by race, to emphasise difference &to think along racial lines. I dont believe that’s how we realise a fairer society. I still believe in working towards colour blindness, a universalist, humanist vision, where racial classification doesn’t define us.
Even if there are elements of truth in notions as ‘white privilege’, ‘microaggressions’, ‘cultural appropriation’ etc, they have become so weaponised, so amorphous and subjective, that they all must be rejected in their totality.
The woke are humourless, nasty and reactionary. By all means, let's expose their behaviour. But, that's not enough. At some point, we actually need to forge a vision that is more compelling and unifying than the dangerous narrative of a power struggle between identities.
Words and phrases that are notably absent from most contemporary social justice activism:
Personal responsibility
Agency
Liberty
Freedom of speech
Self-discipline
Meritocracy
The concept of “white privilege” puports that white people are innately imbued with the characteristics of wealth, success and advantage, simply for being white. It puts whiteness on an unchangeable pedestal. It’s a stones throw away from the notion of racial superiority.
There are no “different races”. There is, of course, human diversity and different migration patterns and population groups. But, the 18th-century idea that humanity can be separated into a hierarchy of racial taxonomy is fundamentally wrong and has been an utter catastrophe.
"I oppose the removal of Cecil Rhodes because I fear it would empower an unpleasant strand of contemporary politics; one that rules through the mob and deals in censorship& shame. This is not a climate for clarity of purpose and vision."

One of the biggest tragedies of our time is the crippling narrative it instils in young people. It tells them that their inheritance - traditions, institutions, society - is fundamentally corrupted. This leaves them feeling displaced, fearful and scrambling for a sense of meaning
The rapid decline of the Labour Party is a cautionary tale about where left-wing fixation w/ identity politics leads. The former party of the working class are now anti-free speech + conscience, anti-women, hostile to dissidents and to democracy and can’t distinguish real racism.
Do people know what free speech even means anymore? You can defend a person’s right to free speech whilst vehemently disagreeing with their opinions. You can vehemently disagree with a person’s opinions without thinking they are motivated by evil. This isn’t complicated...
We live in a therapeutic culture where victimhood is currency. Why convince people through reasoned argument and the democratic process when you can make "demands" and gain credibility through your greicance-based identity?
This is wrong on so many levels. I don’t care what his background is, he is expressing his basic right to free expression. Notwithstanding the fact that we’re in the midst of an economic distaster and therefore, sacking him will almost certainly destroy his livelihood, for what?
It is absurd that a lot of what I say is often only socially acceptable because of my skin complexion. I take no joy in that fact whatsoever. In fact, I see it as a major barrier to social progress and a challenge to universalism.
The method for changing society is increasingly to get an idea institutionalised and taught in schools and universities first, then later use the fact that the idea is widely held amongst "young people" for why everyone else should support it and stop talking about it.
I have spent a lot of time over the last few years trying to understand and empathise with the woke social justice worldview. I have long come to the conclusion that it isn't merely misguided, it is just wrong. It is wrong on its assumptions and wrong on its facts about society.
Decent people are being pitted against one another. Our culture, values and history are being destroyed and many know it is wrong but are afraid to speak up. Our country will fall apart unless more people in positions of power and authority stand up.
The overlaps between woke identitarianism and *real* white supremacism are interesting. Both are racial fatalists who argue that race is a person's defining characteristic, conformity is highly prized, and both believe that different races can never "truly understand" one another
Martin Luther King’s dream of judging by the content of our character not the colour of our skin spoke to a shared humanity, a shared vision of a world beyond race and artificial binds - I still believe that world is possible.
I welcome that more are now waking up to the toxic politics of BLM and distancing themselves. But, the hypocrisy and jumping on the bandwagon MUSN'T be excused. A lot of damage has been caused. A great deal of work to still be done w/ regards to rebuilding our fractured society.
The level of ideological capture in our institutions is of epic proportions. This isn't simply going to be solved by a charismatic leader or some grand idea. It's going to have to come from thousands of people taking a stand against this cultural onslaught & refusing to kowtow.
Falling birth rates, falling marriage rates and a general ambivalence towards commitment amongst under 30s are big elephants in the room in society right now.
It's absurd to investigate the "White Lives Matter" banner but "White Lives Matter" and white identity politics in general is the inevitable backlash to the toxic race-baiting left. What a sad state of affairs...
So delighted to see that
@KemiBadenoch
has thrown her hat in the ring to be the next Tory leader. She’s passionate, courageous and unafraid to take a principled stance on some of the most important moral and cultural debates of our time. A genuine inspiration to a new generation
There hasn't been enough public discussion about what societal conditions exist that enable such superficial thinking as identity politics to flourish. Critiquing woke thinking doesn't address the underlying reasons why it has gained such traction and been so seductive to many.
Adulthood is not just an inevitable biological process, in many ways, it's an achievement - to take full responsibility for your life & make your way in the world. When adults look to children for political guidance, it reveals more about the state of adults than it does children
The fixation with "tackling" anonymous twitter accounts is such a red herring. I see much more nasty and abusive comments on social media from well-known people that have large followings on social media, which suggests it's more a problem of a wider breakdown in civil discourse.
BLM activists refuse to seriously address why there are a significant proportion of BME people who *don’t* view or experience Britain in the fundamentally negative way that has been described. BME people who feel patriotic, believe they belong &are overall happy with things.
The right lost the culture wars decades ago. Even now, conservatives lack the confidence to defend the most foundational aspects of our society and history in the face of a tiny group of loud activists. Until conservatives actually start conserving, the destruction will go on...
Even if this society was an oppressive, dangerous and scary place (it's not), how you choose to respond to that is entirely up to you. There is a clear difference in life outcome and mental wellbeing between those who blame everything on external factors and those who don't.
The protests in Columbia and other universities are riddled with anti-semitism. They also betray a deep sense of western cultural self-loathing, a simplistic and dangerous framework of 'oppressor vs oppressor' and 'white equals bad, non-white equals good'.
Over the last 12 hours, I've been inundated with messages from woke authoritarians and vile anti-semitic enthonationalists (more the latter). It's disgusting how many people are deeply invested in stoking racial divisions in society and fear a universalist vision of humanity.
What purpose does the concept of ‘race’ serve anymore, other than to perpetuate racial divisions? Ethnic/cultural/national heritage (English, Indian, Nigerian etc.) is fine, but race? Is it time to abandon it?
Nomination papers are in!
I am the Brexit Party candidate for Leeds North East.
We can do better than the status quo – the choice in this election is more of the same or an opportunity to vote for a new kind of politics?

Do the best ideas always win? It is the immense traction of tweets like this which challenge my faith in “the free market place of ideas”. The notion of “cultural appropriation” has got to be one of the most reactionary, regressive and intolerant ideas to emerge in recent years.
A lot of people question if I’ve ever experienced racism because I reject the current dominant narrative about race.
Sometimes I answer the question, but a lot of the time I don’t. I’m not playing these games. Truth is truth, regardless of your experiences.
Not a single person who opposes cancel culture has argued that people should not be criticised for expressing an opinion. In fact, strong criticism, debate and discussion are all welcome.
That's literally the point of free speech.
The generalisation of "racial inequality" is, at best, dubious. Lumping together descendants of the Windrush generation, with middle-class immigrants from West Africa with refugees from East Africa in order to smear Britain as racist, is politically-motivated and see-through.
"Racial inequality is one of causes that brought me into politics"
Sir Keir Starmer says "the eradication of structural racism will be a defining cause for the next Labour government"
Free speech is a bulwark against tyranny + reminds us that we're not infallible. It forces us to defend our views + be open to being challenged. This fosters empathy & intellectual rigour.
Is it a coincidence that the dominant social justice discourse is critical of free speech?
**EXCITING NEWS**
This Saturday 27th November 6-7pm, I’ll be hosting the first of my new ideas, culture and politics show on
@GBNEWS
called THE DISCUSSION, featuring challenging ideas and thought-provoking guests.
Make sure to tune in.
It began before, but particularly since the rise of Greta Thunberg, we've had a "cult of youth", a deeply problematic assumption that every political idea that seems popular amongst young people is inherently virtuous and good for society at large.
Yes, this was unfortunate. I was called “Kemi” three times by the host of BBC Politics Live today. There was obviously no bad intent but it really shouldn’t be something that occurs at all, let alone multiple times.
Is it that difficult to get
@InayaFolarin
's name right, I heard "Kemi", I heard "Aya". African names are not difficult to pronounce in fact most are phonetically perfect

The silence from heterosexual men in the gender/sex debate is deafening. This issue affects your sisters, daughters, mothers, friends etc. I do wonder if more recent waves of feminism are partly responsible for undermining solidarity between men and women

A lot of ppl’s unadressed psychological issues are being projected onto society at large. There are strong undertones of resentment &vengefulness in a lot of current social justice activism. These same ppl also insist they’re uniquely placed to know what’s best for all of society
Big tech censorship is far more dangerous and threatening than anything David Icke has ever said. He has been speaking for over twenty years and hasn't done any damage to society. This is a deeply authoritarian violation of free speech.
I will believe in the sincerity of these people's "anger about injustice" if the same (or more) passion, protest and disgust is publicly expressed when the grooming gang report gets released...
– Over 1000 Telford children were exploited “over decades”
– Obvious signs of child sexual exploitation were “ignored”
– Exploitation was “not investigated because of nervousness about race”
– Children were often blamed as dismissed as "child prostitutes"
I was quite politically engaged when I was 16, but I never believed in reducing the voting age.
There is no movement of young people demanding the right to vote. This new push is a deeply cynical and naked attempt to gerrymander our political process.
"Every poll shows the overwhelming majority of people want immigration to come down. We have de facto open borders via the channel crossings. It is terrible for democracy that we cannot seem to do anything about it"

The irony is that if we leave without a deal, it would partly be because remoaners have spent all their energy over the past three years pushing for a second referendum, instead of assisting the government in finding a mutually beneficial trade deal.
I want to clarify that this doesn't mean people cannot show solidarity, friendship and common cause - of course you can, that's humanistic and I support that. What I don't support is people feeling pressured/guilt-tripped into making meaningless gestures to satisfy a baying mob.
I do not need a person who happens to be white, to tell me that my life matters. If anything, it's incredibly condescending. I know my life matters because I do not define my self-worth by the validation of white people.
The level of antisemitism unleashed in Britain over the last few days has been disturbing and sickening. It must be condemned wholeheartedly. Unequivocal solidarity with British Jews during this difficult time.
It's time we stopped pandering and instead, grew a backbone. Social progress and anti-racism work do not begin and end w/ BLM or radical left activism. If anything, they are threatening to wind the clock back.
We just witnessed a system built on white supremacy validate the terroristic acts of a white supremacist.
This only further validates the need to abolish our current system. White supremacy cannot be reformed.
How does the mainstream left square their professed support for "workers" with their enthusiastic advocacy for employers sacking people for expressing political opinions simply because a narrow group of people disagree with it?
I understand why people do it, but it’s frustrating when people start a sentence with “I know that I as a [insert race] person could never understand you as a [different race]”.
If we concede that, then that’s a major nail in the coffin for universalism and common humanity.
Such attempts to find malevolent intent where there is none, and problematise normal social relations between different groups, is straight out of an age-old playbook: divide and conquer.
