@wesstreeting slammed the spending saying: ‘Under the Conservatives, the NHS is forced to chuck ever greater sums of money at taxi firms and private ambulances, because ambulance services simply cannot cope.’.

Spending on private ambulances shot up 62% in the last three years with some ambulance trusts more than doubling their spending. Last year’s total bill came to £145million and could have paid the salaries of more than 3,100 ambulance staff.

EXC: The NHS spent £400k a day on private ambulances and taxis for patients last year as staff shortages and increased demand forced trusts to draft in private companies.
