I’m thrilled to share our paper in @NatureComms on how neonatal brain injury due to intermittent hypoxia disrupts brain lipid metabolism and how treatment with glycerol-triacetate restores fatty acid profile and improves neurologic outcomes.

Every professional organization in medicine should denounce the involvement of private equity in healthcare. They should send a clear message to their young physician members that PE is bad for hospitals, private practices, and patients. They won’t do it, but they should.

Medical students have become obsessed with accumulating publications. For many, it’s not driven by a passion for research or intellectual curiosity. It’s pure CV building. Playing the game. As a metric, it just measures one’s willingness to play this game + their network.
The measure of what makes a good medical student and future physician should not be how many publications they have, but how well they understand and care for their patients.

Happy to have this work finally published! In it we detail the composition and function of the OxPhos system across cancer types (see original thread 👇for more). Congrats to @IlyaNBoykov and @Mcmontgomery11 for leading the charge! https://t.co/9ZVzXacxF4

Scientific Reports - Pan-tissue mitochondrial phenotyping reveals lower OXPHOS expression and function across cancer types
Excited to announce our group's latest preprint led by @IlyaNBoykov + @Mcmontgomery11
https://t.co/6ugOG5Vm1Q In it we compared OXPHOS expression/function, across various murine tumor types, matched normal tissues and other organs -- all normalized to mito content. 🧵below

This weighed heavily on me in my search for the right tenure track position. I looked for other ways to justify my salary (teaching) in order to create space for riskier basic research. There's so much more to academia than R1's. #DreamJob @ECU_Biology
Today's academia leaves less room for basic science than ever before. My new piece for @caltechletters on why this is ruining humanity's future — and how trainees can fight back: https://t.co/UlIXzMygP7
