Last month, @easternahec hosted its 8th Rural Health Symposium. The first speaker was Dr. Alice Bonner of the Age-Friendly Institute and @TheIHI, who said “If we address mentation, medication, and mobility _intentionally_ then the plan is likely to lead to better outcomes."

Our Dept of Public Health hosted its community advisory board meeting Friday, where a group of influential PH leaders like Dir. Maggie Sauer, Office of Rural Health, @ncdhhs, join faculty and students to discuss where health is headed in #ENC and the nation.

Friday the two-day Rural Health Symposium at @easternahec wrapped. Talks included age-friendly health systems, PFAS, veterans, emergency services. Oh, and lots of networking. “The thing that sets this conference apart is the collaboration,” organizer Mildred Carraway said.

More #MDs are interested in #MPHs, and vice versa. Our school spotted that trend more than 20 years ago. We made room in the school for dual-degree earners. Read more about the @ECUDPH and its alumni.

The 8th Rural Health Symposium at @easternahec kicked off with this icebreaker – a whole-audience, single-elimination Rock Paper Scissors tournament. Won by our own Dr. Kathryn Verbanac, Dept of Surgery.

Dr. Eman Soliman won $381,000 in new funds from @NIH for her project on efferocytosis: how the brain clears away dead and damaged cells. This is esp. critical following TBI. How do we produce the best outcomes for patients? Dr. Soliman will tell us. #ECUResearch is #ARRRGH1

🔬 Our nine-week Summer Biomedical Research Program (SBRP) for undergraduates wrapped last week with a poster presentation! The SBRP gives students lab experience alongside faculty mentors. AND students get a small stipend for living expenses. 💰💰💰

Last Wednesday our M1s sat through a four-hour American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification course. It wraps up with a short test – their very first in medical school! Big thx to our instructors, Paige Tyson and Jessica Cringan.
