Continental philosophy is hard because it's thinking at the edge of thought. Philosophy started out as poetry, was married to religion for 2000 years, and every big thinker eventually takes to poetry (Heidegger) or mysticism (Schopenhauer, even Wittgenstein) as an end-point.
