Really looking forward to this concert next Wednesday. Six of the arias haven’t been performed since the 18th century, but they’re a really good bunch. And we have Mozart’s “L’amero” & a sumptuous Haydn trio too…

Very sad to learn of the death of Roger Norrington. He was a force of nature, a great pioneer and a great musician. “People are always giving answers in performances, but have they asked the questions?… I don’t accept authority unless I’ve found the evidence.” RIP

I’d always thought that my clear winner for Best Ever Opera Title was “The Blind Beggar of Bethnal Green”, but I’ve just discovered that in 1787 Karl Ditters von Dittersdorf (no less) wrote an opera called “Hieronymus Knicker” and I’m irredeemably confused.

It’s TONIGHT, @cadoganhall ! Really looking forward to this concert. Most of the music was new to most of the players, & during rehearsals it’s been wonderful to see how blown away they’ve been, especially with Haydn symphony No 67 & Benda’s Medea.

The struggles of the classical music sector have been well documented in recent months, and we - like most arts organisations - rely on the generosity of both individuals and foundations to enable our work on the stage, in the studio, and in our local community.

Really looking forward to these talks. 1st one is live at 4.30 UK time this afternoon but then available to subscribers until late November. I’ll mainly be showing how - and how much - Mozart’s music for Figaro helps to tell the story

@IanPageMozart gives the first of four online talks on Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro today at 16.30. The talks are in conjunction with @Martin_Randall ahead of our concert performance in Sicily in October. You can still register for all four talks here:

An anecdote of an interaction with a patient that has stayed with me for 15 years. When I was a fresh-faced 2nd year doctor in a GP practice, a young lady came for an appointment. She couldn’t have been more than 5 years older than me. The reason was ‘work stress’ A long 🧵
