Hot new research here for #FossilFriday!
Perfect for #FossilFriday: our paper on aDNA from mastodons from American Falls, #Idaho! This was my first foray into the Pleistocene: the lion's share of the @IMNH208 vertebrate paleontology collections. 🦣🦣🦣 So what's so special about Idaho mastodons?

Last week, 8-12 year old students had the opportunity to get "hands-on" during our REAL STEM Open House held at the @IMNH208. Activities included a rock walk, learning to draw like a scientist, and exploring the augmented reality sandbox.

It’s been a whirlwind week for vert paleo: under the radar my first Masters student, Brenlee Shipps, published the main finding of her thesis. Organismal biologists can use the fine details of tooth shape to infer diet, but what about animals with no teeth? ❌🦷
How do you know what an animal eats if it doesn't have any teeth? Find out how a turtle's skull reveals its diet! New research by Brenlee Shipps , @_gondwannabe_ & Kenneth D. Angielczyk: https://t.co/dcVuBkdjrl

#FossilFriday in the last interglacial interval around the American Falls, #Idaho. Some rare stratigraphy! @IMNH208 also has a new paleo collections manager in Dr. Amy Commendador. Not the most productive survey (🐴🦬🐪) but that doesn’t keep @semifossorial down.
