Step one: Clean the Statue of Liberty for the celebration. Step two: Melt it down to take advantage of sky-high U.S. copper prices due to tariffs.

We should clean the Statue of Liberty and unveil its shiny color on July 4th next year for the 250th anniversary of American independence 🇺🇸

Tesla FSD's struggles with railroad crossings are bizarre. This isn't some edge case with a ton of variables to process or some limitation of sensors. The flashing lights and crossing bar coming down are very standard and obvious.

This is want everyone wants nowadays -- to be a victim *and* a superior being. You get to complain and demand special treatment while bragging incessantly and sneering at all the losers out there.

As her own example suggests, AC in most places - definitely including Northern Europe - uses far less energy than heating. With AC, you need to cool temps by 10-20F for a few hours for a few days/wks. In the winter, you need to raise temps, 20-40 degrees (or more) for wks/mos.

A Guardian columnist argues that widespread air-conditioning is 'philosophically problematic' because 'the screaming urgency to tackle the collective issue of a world on fire can recede slightly.' . She has an AC unit herself, of course.

Mexico absorbed Trump's tariffs and insults quietly. The country took some steps on drug trafficking. Still getting a huge tariff hike. The past week has shown that Trump is going to impose massive tariffs on everyone no matter what. TBF, just the 10% baseline tariff is extreme.

All of this. The copper tariffs make no sense - higher costs for construction/manufacturing w/o a domestic production boost. Easing NEPA rules on mine projects (copper, lithium, etc.) would be a way to boost U.S. output while lowering prices at the margin.

I don't understand the new 50% copper tariffs. They're not going to jumpstart US production, aren't targeted to countries in which we're in a trade war, and will drive up prices on a wide range of essential goods. A couple mines in the US are world-class and economic without the.

June CPI inflation Tue. Core CPI is expected to rise to 3% vs. a year earlier after 3 mos of 2.8%. June's expected bump may be partially due to tariffs (0.3% m-m gain seen), but also tougher comparisons. Annual inflation cooled to start 2025 due to tame-ish monthly readings, .

You know this administration could do the funniest thing ever and sell 170,000 hellfire missiles to Ukraine because it would be cheaper than going through all the bureaucratic red tape and environmental regulations to dispose of them in the United States.
