🧵It’s official - @HUDgov is slashing overall permanent housing funds by roughly 2/3 in its main #homelessness solutions program – the Continuum of Care(CoC). If Congress doesn’t undo this harmful change, over 170K formerly unhoused people will lose housing assistance next year.

Continuum of Care NOFO if out. As reported, over 170,000 people with disabilities, who used to be homeless but are now housed with permanent subsidies, will lose their housing, if this stands.

Trump's HUD is preparing to gut federal support for long-term housing programs. The changes could put 170,000 formerly homeless people at risk of losing their housing — many of whom are disabled or over 50. The cruelty is endless.

In a major shift, HUD’s plan would direct most of the $3.9 billion in homelessness funds away from Housing First to programs that prioritize work and drug treatment.

A Senate committee passed a 2026 funding bill last Thursday that would reject the harshest cuts proposed by House Republicans and President Trump, but would still leave fewer people with the rental assistance they need to afford the basic necessity of a stable home.

I truly believe that housing is one of the most important issues of our time. I hope you will see my byline again soon. I have too many questions left unanswered for anyone to shut me up for long :) If you know of other journalism opportunities out there, please let me know

I don’t post on this platform anymore, but today is an exception. I’ve been laid off by the @chicagotribune. It was a joy working with so many amazing people in this newsroom.

Today, Trump signed an executive order encouraging state and local governments to rob U.S. citizens of their rights & basic human dignity rather than take meaningful steps to solve homelessness. The directive is inhumane & counterproductive. Our statement:

Senate Republicans are rushing to pass a bill that would take #SNAP food assistance away entirely from millions of low-income people & cut food benefits for millions more. Some states could even end SNAP entirely. But Senators still have time to reject these harmful policies.

The Senate is barreling toward a vote on an unfinished bill that wld take away health coverage & food assistance from millions, raise families’ costs, & make ppl in our nation worse off. There’s still time for senators to say no to this bill. My statement:
