Welp, this aged poorly!
@OSHA_Guy This staff has had only one veteran scholarship QB on the depth chart every year at UVA, the second on the 2-deep always a 2nd or 1st year (true soph Woolfolk in '22, AC in '23-'24, Kaelin last year). Means likely Geer and Jurgensen battle for QB2 this year, for better or worse.

We have a Top 25 Football team and a Top 25 MBB team and are coming off a #12 finish in the Director's Cup on top of winning repeated Commonwealth Clashes. Point being, for right now at least, it's pretty darn good to be a Wahoo. Appreciate the AD and the whole department.
You can hate the current rules of the game but you can’t hate on how well @ADWilliamsUVA & Co. are playing them…this represents top down institutional buy-in to keeping this program relevant.

Ranking remaining Portal priorities after today's pickups: 1. Starting WR-Z 2. Starting DB 3. DT Depth 4. DB Depth 5. WR Depth 6. LB Depth Anything beyond that is gravy, especially younger talent for the developmental pipeline.

Portal "closes" on Friday, meaning no more can *enter*. Uncommitted guys already in the Portal can still commit later, though, to include potentially in the spring. No exceptions for grad transfers anymore.

This is @Coach_Mims2 's second jinxed "commitment .gif tweet" of the Portal window. Zero transfer WR pickups so far after losing 5 to the Portal (incl 3 2-deepers). Worst off-season of any Hoo position coach by a mile so far.
Oregon is hosting a transfer wide receiver, @On3sports has learned. Details: https://t.co/eN3sig0M3N

Why do we write? Is it to share knowledge and ideas? Is it to be remembered for a longer period of time? Is it to validate and test our own ideas or to shape/steer the dialogue… or both? Is i…

Summary of major needs: Offense: 1 QB (starter ready), 2 WR (starter ready deep threat plus slot), 1 TE Defense: 2 DT, 1 Edge, 1 LB, 2 CB, 1 S ST: KOR/PR, depth at P. Usual caveats: This is just a snapshot, some players that *can* return may still elect not to.

Reminder, "eligible to return" does *not* mean "committed to return." Some are still feeling out their options, negotiating NIL/RevShare, weighing PT outlooks, etc. They could still leave anytime in the next ~10 days. Like I said over the weekend, "not for the faint of heart."
As promised, here are the position by position roster cards for the Defense (see our posts from yesterday for the offense), with last year's stats, as a snapshot for Portal season. We'll update/republish these periodically over the coming weeks as the roster takes further shape:

#UVa O-Line coach Terry Heffernan is leaving to become Stanford’s offensive coordinator, a source confirms to The Daily Progress. Under Heffernan’s watch, the OL paved the way for the Hoos to rush for 2,502 yards this past fall — the most they’ve had in a season since 2004.

I know each guy is his own unique set of circumstances, and on a case by case basis the right Portal commitment can offset the loss. But all put together at the same time, my eyebrows are raised.
