Cuts From The Corner: @ Louisville Grunloh and Thomas and the ability for the team to play very well even when a good chunk of our roster don't have their A-games. https://t.co/5j7gseflZq

Thijs De Ridder can get buckets in any game - we've seen that; but the thing about his play is that, despite some silly fouls at times, his defensive baseline is so good and so flexible that even when he's not on his offensive game (like at Louisville), he's still so important.

Despite an early-mid season slump, Johann Grunloh has quietly raised his three-point shooting % to 34.3% for the season.

Put this in a retweet but think it's worth a standalone. If you're still looking at our defense through the eyes of the Pack Line, this is helpful reading to explain how what our defense is trying to do is different. https://t.co/511duzrj4V

We’re back with the second of our two installments of Ryan Odom’s systems. The first was our look at his offenses. This will be a look at his defensive systems. While still meaty, this …

Love this - but Odom has a specific scheme as well. Wrote this in the offseason if anyone is interested now that the games are live: https://t.co/511duzrj4V

"Big difference between Bennett’s & Odom? Winning defensively w scheme, versus w size." "Odom has also built a team predicated on D, but w personnel .. incl two 7-footers." "Think “pickup against your older brother” vibes when guards try to score at the rim." Perfect analogy.

Texas just beat Vandy. Stanford just beat UNC off of 36 on 12-20 from Okorie after we just held him to 5-20 shooting. And SMU survived Tech by a point headed into our game. Good outcomes for us.

I've seen a lot of indignance about McKneely attacking that Chance close out and making a layup - fine - it was a pretty clear path and his issue was always worrying about getting blocked which he wasn't there. I'm more incredulous about that turnaround jumper over UGO!

Glad they pushed the transfer window out until March Madness is over. That was a handicap for teams still playing before.

Shout out to the LRA community for this chart to help illustrate the defensive improvement of Hall/Thomas and how it showed up in last night's game:
Dallin Hall's defense since the exam break has been really good. TWELVE rebounds (10 defensive) last night; and drew some fouls fighting for boards as well. He's figured out the defensive system and rotates so well now, too. He's not the prolific scorer; but he adds much value.

Virginia has outscored its first five ACC opponents by 53 points, its highest number since 2021. Here’s the difference: the Hoos’ first five opponents this year average a national ranking of 54.4. In 2021, that number was 107.6. Tougher competition, still dominating. 🔥

Darn right if Virginia isn't getting a four seed we should get TWO five seeds.

Chance had some growing pains. Jacari struggled to defend and ultimately didn’t play much, Tillis seemed injured and had a poor game on both ends. TDR didn’t have the offensive impact he normally does… Wire to wire 9-point win on the road at #20. So many guys can carry.

Virginia keeps rolling. Man this team is FUN! 14/34 from deep, 19 from Malik Thomas. 16 from Grunloh, 15 for Lewis. Not to mention 7 combined blocks for Grunloh & Onyenso. Goodness. Road win at Louisville no less. The resume just keeps getting better! Top 16 now? Might be.

My guy. Update your 5 seed point! :)
Final: Virginia 79, Louisville 70 Folks, if you aren't paying attention to Virginia, it's time. This team is really talented, and they just dominated Louisville on its home floor. 14 threes tonight makes it 8 games with 12+. Legit Final Four potential for UVA.

Need Jacari to go through the defensive revelation Malik did now.

Thomas and Grunloh were absolute heroes tonight. Jacari will need to work his way back into form. Idk about Tillis, though, he seems injured. It’s exactly the same vibe as before his surgery. We need a solution there.

Let’s GO!!!!!! 3-0 against former players. Had that one circled all year. Happy to give McKneely that L. Feel free to have a good rest of his season. Not tonight!
