He's 14. He has tiktok. And he doomscrolled through 2000 antisemitic comments before I even knew it was happening. We sat together and looked again so he could learn not to internalize it. Even laugh at it and mock antisemites. But it's too late. He's 14 and now he knows.

My grandma hadn't heard from any of her cousins since before the war. Then she goes to the movies and sees newsreel footage and everyone in the audience starts to scream.
That's how she learned that all her cousins were dead.

My parents lost one of their closest friends to cancer. The funeral was today and it was sad watching this close-knit crew bury one of their own. People make fun of baby boomers but in the Jewish community, boomers are miracles. Jewish children born after the war.

I've been reflecting on our 80s childhoods, and how many of the survivors who came to speak to us at school were not much older than we are now. We didn't have the privilege of "only reading Anne Frank." Our Holocaust education was informal and everywhere.
